Shabby Bahia Mar Resort
I went with two stars to be kind. Shabby and dated is the best way to describe the Bahia Mar. Staff is slow moving but they do try with what they've got. Bring bottled water. The tap water is a muddy taste to it. You can buy bottled water at the bar but I recommend you stop at the grocery store or Wal-Mart and buy a flat of it. There some insect issues. DO NOT LEAVE ANY FOOD IN YOUR CAR OR YOU WILL HAVE ANTS IN YOUR CAR. We left by accident a single sandwich box in the car and had to deal with ants the next day. Others had the same problem. Have to computers by the front desk so you can do some net surfing but I didn't go there to "surf" then net. Has two elevators and signs asking you to limit the number of people to 8 in the elevators. They used the fire alarm system to make an announcement for someone to move their car. People were coming out of their rooms wondering if there was a fire. They didn't know weather to get out of the hotel or stay in their rooms. Not a good idea to use a hotel fire alarm system as a public address system. The second day of our stay the air conditioner went out and they gave us a box fan to use. If you have more then one car then you have to pay an additional $5 a day for a permit to park it there. Is gated and you have to check with the security guard at the gate to get in at night. Our room had a small refrigerator and a small microwave. Didn't use the microwave but did make use of the refrigerator for our bottled water. Ice machines are on odd numbered floors. The view from the balcony was fantastic ! There were two chairs on the balcony to use and I did so. However, at night, the insects come out so bring your insect spray. There are better places to say. When it was built there weren't that many but times have changed. I was there for a conference. I could have stayed next door at the Travel Lodge and walked to it. I would have had a better, cleaner and newer room.
Very misleading
My girlfriend and I spent the 4th of July weekend here, and we were very disappointed with the quality of the hotel. The website and pictures are very misleading. There was no room service, and you had to take your own luggage to your room. We got a room with two queen size beds and the ocean view. The bathroom was so small, and the bathtub was even smaller. There was a nozzle of some kind in the ceiling above the bathtub that kept dripping water from the room above (I guess). Do not stay here. I now know why it was so cheap.
You owe it to yourself....
I cannot say enough about Bahia Mar Resort. When in the area my wife and I have stayed with various hotels on the island. After our first visit to Bahia Mar, all the others ceased to exist. The staff is very courteous, efficient and helpful. The food and atmosphere in the Grill / lounge is always very pleasing. The entire 15 acres is very pretty and meticulously groomed every morning. We have visited for some of their parties as well as intimate getaways, and have always left more than satisfied. When visiting South Padre Island, try Bahia Mar Resort.....You owe it to yourself.
