Marble floors, polished mahogany and wrought-iron balconies keep the elegance of the past alive. Lafayette Square is a great French Quarter alternative (and still super close to the action).

After 20 years, the Lafayette has ruined itself. It used to be the perfect place for Mardi Gras, but now has a new owner who just wants to nickel, dime, and alienate the regulars. Not a smart move.
