Delicious food, but pricey

Just came back from Thursday lunch at Altitude. Seven co-workers went there because one had a $25 off coupon. We did not have a reservation, but that was not a problem. The room is attractive and comfortable and the service was very good. The food was also very good. Three of us had the chicken and pasta special, which we all agreed was delicious. One person had a salad, one had the ham & cheese grilled sandwich, and two had hamburgers. Everyone agreed the food was good and we would like to go back. The only problem is the price. With the $25 off, it came to $14 per person, which is fairly pricey for lunch in Denver.

Bland food not worth the fancy price...

We received a coupon for $25 off to go to Altitude - and were excited to have an evening out at a four star restaurant. We ended up being very disappointed. The positive note - the service was great - it was a Wednesday night and fairly slow, so the servers were attentive. However, the food was severly lacking in flavor for the price we paid. The meals average from $25 to $40 a plate. I had the salmon veracruzana - which wasn't completely cooked in the center and had little flavor - served on overcooked basmati rice that was in a watery tomato broth. (Really sloppy and hard to eat - almost a soup.) It was supposed to have a roasted poblano mango relish. I never saw a poblano, the mango was not ripe - hard strips of stringy fruit. An overwhelming disappointment. My husband had dry rubbed baby back ribs. The waitress said they were spicy, but they came out dry, stringy and really bland. The baked potato was good - hard to screw it up, since they serve all the toppings on the side for you to add. We had planned on ordering dessert, but after the lacking meal decided to go elsewhere for the evening. To top it off, the waitress added herself a 20% tip for a "large party", even though there were only two of us. (Because we were using a coupon? We generally tip well, I don't like presumptious waitstaff. I am guessing they get stiffed regularly.) In the end, with our $25 off coupon - the meal cost us $50 with two meals (no apps or dessert) and one glass of soda. We left very disappointed and craving something tasty....

Dining disppointment in Denver

The Hyatt Regency Convention Center in Denver is pretentious, to say the least. And Altitude Restaurant on the ground floor is no exception. The prices are sky-high, and therefore our expectation was for at least decent food. We were sadly disappointed. Service was slow and confused -- they weren't even sure who our waitperson was supposed to be. The only good service was from our busboy. My split pea soup was watery and salty, with just a few sad shards of pea at the bottom of the bowl. They didn't provide us with any bread until we asked, and what they finally brought smelled mouldy and tasted worse. Totally inedible. The six layer chocolate cake was mediocre at best -- my husband and I are both chocoholics, but I could stomach only a few bites and he stopped at one small taste. Poor cake texture, uninspired flavor, unappealing frosting. My husband's "warm chocolate-chip cookie ice cream sandwich" concoction was nearly as disappointing: the cookies were so hard and stale that he could hardly cut through them. The only really good part of the meal was the warm chocolate-Grand Marnier shooter that accompanied the cake, but that was certainly not worth the price of admission! If you want slow service and expensive, disappointing food, this is the place to go. But if you want excellent food and service, go down to the Brown Palace Hotel and eat at one of their famed restaurants.

unpredictable and fickle closing hours/poor customer service

I arrived at the Peaks Lounge with a small party celebrating a 30th birthday party at 1:00am, well before last call, and a full hour before Denver's legal closing time of 2:00am. We wished to conclude our evening here with a few drinks, but with no explanation an employee turned us away from the door. I could see clearly through the open door that they were not over crowded, nor were we a rowdy bunch. I have never been prohibited access to any Denver bar prior to last call. Additionally, the Hyatt's website cleverly leaves closing time for the bar unlisted, presumably leaving closing time to the whim of the manager. Consequently, poor policy paired with poor customer service at Peaks ended our previously fantastic night on a very sour note. If CitySearch made it possible I would NOT even give Peaks Lounge a single star.

Lounge is great!

A great way to view the city in a romantic setting! The wine is more expensive than other lounges around town but it comes with the beautiful view so there is not much to complain about. Lux setting, large bar and floor to celling views. The best way to end a night out in Denver is here!

Wonderful decor and the breakfast and lunch buffets are excellent. Try the special occasion buffets to. We went for Easter and the food was incredible

All around great hotel

Outstanding views. Service was outstanding. The new Hyatt is just beautiful. We love both of the bars and Altitude restaurant.

so NOT worth it

I have eaten at other Hyatt restaurants around the world and by far Altitude is the worse restaraunt I have eaten in general. My husband had some scallops that were rubbery and I had some pasta dish not worth remembering that cost over $20! It's pasta! The service was confusing, no one could figure out who was our server! In addition, the wine list was poor, they didn't have very many sparkling wine selections and it was heavily California based. It was just a sad experience all together. The only saving grace was our Host, he was a hoot! And the Strata bar was fantastic and our waitress was excellent. We never had to wait to ask for another drink, she was taking our drink order as we were on our last few sips. Other than that...so NOT worth it!
