Hotel Monaco rocks!
This is an incredible hotel, the rooms are fantastic, love the decorating. I adopted a gold fish during my stay. The place is spotless, the ...
Interior Designer? Anyone?
My boyfriend surprised me with an overnight stay for a romantic getaway here. Needles to say we checked out the soonest thing possible. The interior design of the rooms was hideous. Green and pink striped wallpaper by a yellow wall with a red chair, etc. It seriously gave me a headache. I understand what they were going for (a cool boutique hotel), but they missed it. The room was so tiny too! I would not recommend this place!
Choose another hotel...
My husband and I were looking for a nice hotel downtown for an extra special occassion and chose Hotel Monaco, because of the great pictures on their website and their proximity to the nightlife downtown. First of all, please understand that if you reserve anything but a suite you will be staying in a room roughly the size of a "closet". Our closet had threadbare carpeting with a supposedly king size bed (not so). We had also asked for an east facing room high enough to enjoy a view of the Wasatch mountains, but was given neither. Of course, being a closet with a bed it does not have room for any type of chair, so you are forced to sit on the bed your entire stay.
Return Guest (Again and Again)
The Hotel Monaco is my favorite close-to-home escape in Salt Lake City. My husband and I frequently stay there when we want to enjoy downtown dining and bar hopping. The decor at the Monaco is both elegant and quirky. The lobby features lovely large sofas and chairs with big cushions perfect for snuggling up and enjoying the complimentary wine reception held from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. nightly. Overall, the staff at the Monaco is friendly. I have to admit I have experienced some "attitude" in the past, but on my more recent visits, that seems to have been resolved. The rooms at the hotel and absolutely lovely. The average king rooms are far from average, featuring all sorts of comforting details and amenities. The bathrooms are all large, beautiful, and best of all, stocked with Aveda products. The beds are so comfortable that I never want to leave them, and always end up sleeping late. The mid-sized suites are lovely, featuring a spacious sitting room. The largest suites in the hotel are nothing short of incredible. They are corner rooms on the upper floors and therefore, feature amazing views of downtown. The suites include a large sitting area, a full "guest" bath, a full dining area, and a huge "master" bath with a fabulously deep jetted tub. When I stay in one of these suites, I never want to go home. The room service I have had at Hotel Monaco has been consistently average, but the restaurant, Bambara, is wonderful. I recommend the Hotel Monaco to anyone visiting Salt Lake City, and to any locals looking to escape the world for a while.
Extremely Rude Staff
The staff at this hotel were extremely rude and I would not recommend anyone stay here. I often travel for business and I will be certain to avoid Kimpton Hotels everywhere I go thanks to the extremely unpleasant nature of this one experience.
A Dentist's chair would have been more relaxing!
If you want terrible customer service this is the place. We just felt like we were being ignored during our stay here. We were charged for everything from bottled water to valet parking. We paid a small fortune to stay here and it wasn't worth it. Just take a mattress and lay it on the floor of your nearest bank...same difference. They should reinstate the "continental bank" offices. I have recieved more romance looking through my safety deposit box!
I'll stay here again and again
The prices here can be fairly reasonable, depending on the day. We stayed in a suite for two days and it was great. The bed was VERY comfo...
Enjoyed our stay there.
We recently got two corner rooms, each with double beds, to accomodate our family there. The rooms were spacious with many thoughtful amenities. For example, the down comforters were sandwiched between sheets, so we knew all the bedding was fresh. One negative -- the curtains were heavy and difficult to close completely, so at night the street lights made fascinating patterns on the ceiling. The breakfast served in the restaurant was superb. The central location downtown was convenient. We'll be back!
Birds and Bees on Valentine's Day
We ordered the Birds and Bees package (free breakfast in bed, free overnight parking, ostrich feather and Burt's Bees baby oil). Beautiful room, close to lots of activities. We didn't want to leave our very comfortable plush king size bed! Be careful, though. I reserved online and the package rate did not show up in the reservation. I called to reconfirm, and they did not have me down as having reserved the package. They courteously fixed the problem. However, when we checked out, the room service and parking were on the bill. Again, they courteously fixed the problem. As long as you watch out for yourself, everything is wonderful.
Hotel Monaco
I'm not sure who thought this was a budget hotel. It's a first-class, five star place with the best rooms, restaurant, etc in town (along with the Grand America), and prices to match. The Crystal Inn (two locations) is a better budget bet, but if you have the $$$, go for the Monaco!
It was okay, but...
My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Monaco in Salt Lake and while the atmosphere was definitely fun and trendy, we paid a LOT for a suite that was well-decorated but pretty tiny and didn't have a jetted tub (we were promised one). The staff were a little stuffy and pretentious and the parking was also really expensive. It was a beautiful room; I just felt like we paid for a lot more than we got.
A Treasure
Small but elegant room. Excellent staff and amenities. Great rates. Good bar downstairs for a night-cap. I hated to leave.
Absolute luxery
Not only does this place have great rooms, they have great food as well -- Bambara.
Amazingly Eclectic
The service and atmosphere are great. The downtown location is great. And, the lobby and the bar are great places to hang out if you are star struck.
Did I just see Spencer Tracy
No. But it feels like I did a time warp to yester-year into Los Angeles or San Francisco. The romance and luxury of the past has come home to Salt Lake City.
Boutique and Beautiful
This small boutique hotel is comfortable, beautiful and just an all around enjoyable place to stay. Free massages and wine tasting in the lobby, gold fish to keep you company at night, and comfortable beds make this hotel a must-stay. Every staff person I encountered--from front desk staff to room service to bellmen--was helpful, pleasant and enthusiastic about what their city has to offer a short-time visitor. The in-house restaurant has healthy and quick breakfast service, as well as elegant and posh dinner dining.

Be sure to valet. Cheaper than surrounding parking garages not to mention very nice and handsome valet staff. -
Great hotel but bring some cash and dot plan on watching too much tv. They have basic cable but no FSN for jazz or soccer games. -
Free coffee and Mighty Leaf teas in the lobby every morning. The coffee is very good. -
