Partner Reviews: Hotel Monaco - a Kimpton Hotel

    • Burgundy Tasting with new releases of Faiveley and Armand Rousseau!
    • Say hi to Oliver at the front desk
    • Complimentary chair massage during wine hour on Sunday, that made my stay!
    • Ask reception for a goldfish when you check in and they'll send a beautiful glass bowl complete with fish to your room!
    • The lounge area past the front desk is spacious and is nicely appointed with a fireplace and comfortable seating.
    • Mose Johnson was the best. very knowledgeable and friendly.
    • Free wine hour is worth the price of staying here.
    • Best thing about this hotel is the free wine hour at 5 everyday! Oh plus there's massage chair with free massages. Leave a good tip though!
    • Meet the Fat Man. But watch out for the kid. He's trigger happy.
    • Cute, clean, good location. The only downside is the terrible service.
    • If you say the word “Popsicle” while you’re checking in during the month of August 2010, they’ll have a surprise for you!
    • They are extremely dog friendly here. Big dogs too. They have their own dog behind the counter and even treats at the front door to welcome their furry guests!
    • The decor is really cute. My kind of style.
    • Queen canopy bed is my fave!
    • no one answered the 24-hour room service at midnight. then the front desk clerk couldn't find them. kinda lame.

Great Customer Service/Staff, Good Experience

Rating: 8

First time at this hotel. Staff was great and very accomodating. Extremely Kid Friendly. They brought a Gold Fish into our room:-) The rooms were beautifully decorated, the wine hour was great along with the beautiful lounge. I can't say enough how friendly the staff were! Everyone from the doorman, front desk, to the maids always greeted us with a genuine smile.

Great Hotel

Beautiful, fun, colorful art deco decor in lobby and rooms. Excellent staff - very friendly and on-the-ball. Free wine and cheese and tarot-card readings in lobby every night was a treat. Rooms were nicely decorated with canopy beds, When we first went to our room we heard barking dogs everywhere and learned we were on the "pet friendly" floor. They promptly moved us to another floor, no problem. I like the hotel's location - you can walk to everything, including some funky cafes and restaurants nearby. My only complaints: the price (we paid $170/night) and the size of the rooms were very small BUT that's what one should expect from most SF hotels.

so so hotel, so so location

the hotel itself is ok. The decor is a charming early 20th century attempt. The bar area is nice. But it's not very wow, and the location borders on scary-literally. Union Square is a pit in my estimation, and this is on the edge of Union Square and skid row.

Excellent place to stay while in San Francisco. Well priced, clean and fun place to stay. Rooms are nice sized and the hotel has a nice bar atmosphere and an excellent restaurant.

Perfect!!

Just returned from two fantastic nights at the Monaco! The Suite we were in was on the sixth floor and was very spacious for San Francisco standards and the Jacuzzi tub was HUGE!!! Fits two easily. The decor is beautiful. The free wine hour starting at 5 pm is a perfect time and place to unwind from a busy day sightseeing. The location is good (two blocks from Union Square and Cable Cars). Staff is Over the Top great. Name recognition almost scary. Will return for sure.

Pleasantly surprised

From decor to dining to the service....this hotel is unexpected and wonderful! So good that I would rather keep it a secret. We stayed as a family of 6 and the suite was cozy and beautiful. Its within a short walk to Union Square and the the views on the city busy street kept my son entertained. There are romantic window seats and canopies atop your bed and a whirling tub to keep you happy. And the BEST part is that the room was internet ready with a T1 connection. Even the valet guys had great outfits!

Don't Miss It!

The Monaco is the BEST! We are a family of 4 (2 teenage kids) that love to travel. Researched extensivly b/c it was our first trip to San Francisco; saw the hotel on-line. Seeing is believing. The site does not do justice to the grandeous decor and service! Nothing was left to chance. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I was impressed that upon our arrival, the front desk personnel knew our name. A must to experience! This definitely should be on your to-do list: Alcatraz, Presdidio, Golden Gate Bridge and THE MONACO!

Yay!

Although the King room we requested was unavailable (even though I reserved in January for a room in August), this hotel was wonderful. We got a pet goldfish for our room, and we thoroughly enjoyed the daily cocktail hour with great wines, appetizers, massages, and tarot readings. A block away is the pretty ugly Tenderloin border, so know where you're going before you leave at night. The spa was great--start your morning with a massage! One more thing: a great value. In NY, you'd easily pay $250-$350 a night for such a place. We booked ours for only $179.

Spectacular!

I can't say enough great things about our stay at Hotel Monaco. We didn't want to leave. The level of service is far above what one expects. The decor is charming, classy and very relaxing. I will have a hard time staying elsewhere when I visit San Francisco again.

Old Time Hotel

Love it! It's a fantastic place to bring a loved one or one you just want to love. The staff assisted with all sorts of things from where to dine to sneaking champagne in the room. They are all very nice but I did see them handle a horrible fellow guest very firmly. The Clift hotel next door may have hype but it has a lot to learn from the Monaco.

Best of the best!

We have been staying @ the Monaco since it opened and find the rooms and decor so beautiful & eclectic that we have used many of their ideas in building a custom home. Staff is the best anywhere! (& we've been EVERYWHERE!) We stay at Kimpton hotels in every city available but the Monaco remains the best of the best.

Memorable

From the moment you arrive the staff is freindly and helpful--and not in that phony training video way. Our bellman even arranged access to the staff microwave to heat food for our young children. Beautiful, lush common areas. Beautiful, uncommonly decorated cozy rooms. Our daughter loved having the complimentary goldfish to keep her company. Our only beef was with the spotty housekeeping who--among a few things--neglected to vacuum spilled food from our rug. Make sure to enjoy the unstuffy afternoon tea/wine & cheese and tarot card readings.

My family stayed at the Monaco for four days over Labor Day weekend. The staff was attentive and delightful. The room was smallish, but comfortable. The hotel is also ideally located for enjoying San Francisco.

Beautiful...Romantic...Comfortable...Attentive...Warm...Inviting... These are but a few words to describe how we felt while celebrating our anniversary at the Hotel Monaco in SF. The staff was there for our every need always with a smile on their face. The only thing is wish was different would be larger rooms.
