I stayed at the Hotel Tsentralny in March, 2008 and cannot say enough nice things about the property.  Although there are many more Western-style hotels in town, I chose the Tsentralny for it's history as the oldest hotel in town (at least during the Soviet era.)  I was pleasantly surprised to find the entire hotel nicely renovated, the rooms comfortable, maid service excellent, and the front desk staff is English speaking and couldn't have been nicer.  I had planned on checking out after three nights but enjoyed my stay so much I added on one more night!  The breakfast buffet in the Savoy Restaurant is an amazing huge buffet for Russian standards and cannot be missed.  I will definitely return to the Tsentralny on my next trip to Ekaterinburg!
