Great location, great staff, great lounge! Alicia and Rex get an A+

Rating: 10

The location can't get any better. You're in downtown first of all and next to a transportation hub that can take you anywhere else in the city you'd like to go. I personally did not stay in the hotel, my parents did while visiting. Their room was small, but cozy. My thoughts on the rooms are second hand, but my parents raved about it saying that it was quite and friendly. My expertise on the Chancellor comes from the ground floor cocktail lounge. It is the BEST place to unwind after work! It's small but so classy and cozy, relaxing with great jazz softly playing. Drink prices are moderate for downtown. Alicia and Rex are the best! Always welcoming, always friendly. And excellent at making drinks! Just a charming little unassuming spot that always makes me feel right at home :)

Great hotel and location, shopping within walking distance, on cablecar line!!!

Rating: 10

The Chancellor Hotel has a great location, surrounded by shopping and more shopping. It is on the cablecar line so no need to rent a car or even take a taxi. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance, take the cablecar to Fisherman's Warf to spend the day shopping. China Town is within walking distance for more shopping with many great restaurants. There is a seven tier mall approximately 3 blocks from the Chancellor Hotel. The staff was very friendly, rooms are somewhat small, but most are in San Francisco. They had great little touches like homemade cookies and fresh popcorn and even a little rubber ducky while you relax in the spaceous bathtub with bath salts after you spent the day shopping. They even have a pillow menu, yes a pillow menu. I had them bring up at least five different pillows for me to try. I definately recommend this hotel, and can't wait to return to San Francisco. Did I mention the shopping is fabulous and all within walking distance.... Louis Vuitton, Coach, Saks, Macys, Gucci, Tiffany's, Neiman Marcus and Sephora need I go on????

Terrific location

Rating: 8

The Chancellor is in the heart of Union Square, next to far more expensive hotels. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, room was smallish, but certainly adequate. Great touches like free cookies, popcorn and coffee in lobby, walk-in closet, umbrella, rubber ducky for use in huge bathtub along with bath salts, etc. add to ambiance. Hotel restaurant had wonderful breakfasts (I didn't have other meals there). Also right next door is Sears Fine Foods on one side and a huge Borders Books on the other. Highly recommended.

great value, great location, cozy room

Rating: 10

this is a great hotel for the price, half a block from union square and high-end shopping. the cable car stops right in front of the hotel if you are planning to visit major tourist attractions in san francisco. the hotel is also within 5 blocks of major buslines and the MUNI/BART underground, so you can get anywhere you want to go without a car/cab. the rooms are clean and well-kept, but very cozy (no more than two people per room). free wi-fi is a major plus. other amenities in our "double standard" room: small walk-in closet, cable, movies on demand, knowledgeable concierge. service at front desk was somewhat unprofessional, but that's really my only complaint. can't beat the value!

Fabulous

Rating: 10

The service was outstanding! When I checked in the bell captain grabbed my luggage from the shuttle driver before I could. He passed it on to the bell hop who enthusiastically waited for me to check in. The rooms are smaller than modern hotels, but very comfortable. The tub was HUGE. I took a relaxing bath with bath salts provided after a long day walking up, up, up. They always have coffee & tea and homemade cookies available. And my favorite part, its next door to Borders Bookstore! And near Macy's! They even have adjoining rooms, which you don't see much these days. The rooms on the backside don't have good views, but I went outside to get views. The restaurant had excellent food, but the service was slow. Didn't bother me that the waitress was a little slow as long as she was nice and brought good hot food.

Location! Location! Location!

A hidden jewel in this City by the Bay...right in all the action of Union Square. Great staff. Wonderful service. Great price. Fantastic tubs. Kinda hate telling people about it because I want this find all to myself, but I want this hotel to continue on so I can go back again...and again...and again...!!! Gotta Love the HUGE TUBS with the Rubber Duckie..and when you go, check out the gym facilities!

WONDERFUL experience!!

Rating: 9

The Chancellor Hotel is a great place to stay. The location is wonderful..One tip..DO NOT attempt to catch the cable car in front of the hotel..we waited for an hour..walk to the end of the street & wait in line. The room service was very quick (awesome coffee by the way). The rooms are charming with a HUGE bathtub (rubber duckie included). The elevator is a bit scary, rather small. Checking in was a breeze, as was checking out. It seems as though all employees are helpful and nice. We will return soon and tell our friends..

Thrifty chic

Rating: 8

The best part of the Chancellor Hotel is the location, location, location! Unlike many hotels that are "Union Square" the Chancellor really is right in the heart of things. Despite the hubbub of Union Square and the cable car right outside the door, our room was cozy, quiet, clean (albeit small- but what rooms in San Francisco aren't?) The service was quite personable, the cookies and coffee in the lobby appreciated and the little extras like the rubber duckie in the bath were great!
