We Guess There's No 'Pink Champagne on Ice' at the Rixos Hotel in Tripoli

You can check in anytime you like but you probably can't leave until the fighting dies down in Tripoli.
Reports from Libya today have been all about the rebels taking down Qaddafi's nefarious regime in the capitol of Tripoli but the journalists responsible for getting those reports out are in a bit of a quandary themselves.
Approximately three dozen journalists are holed up in the five-star Rixos Al Nasr Hotel. Actually holed up is not the right word. Trapped is more like it.
The Guardian UK writes:
For months, many have feared they could be held by the regime as human shields if rebels reached the capital. The only exit route from Tripoli by land, the road to the Tunisian border, has been cut off by rebel fighters for more than a week.

What Is This Libyan Hotel Really Asking?

We found ourselves, once again, tittering in the corner after discovering this sorely mis-translated hotel sign from Libya. Canadian-British journalist @DougSaunders recently shared the photo via Twitter, and we felt compelled to repost it. Not that it's right to make fun of linguistic barriers—but, well, they said the word "kink."
Unlike last week's mess of a hotel sign, we're pretty sure we know what the hotel getting at here. Equally appealing is the caption provided by Doug Saunders, who writes under the photo, "My Libyan hotel seems to know me too well." Don't get too comfortable there, Doug!

The JW Marriott Tripoli Has Closed Just Weeks After Opening

After learning that the five-star luxe Corinthia Hotel in London had sketchy connections to Libya's dictator, Muammar Qaddafi, we also noticed another problem with a hotel in Libya.
The five-star, 370-room JW Marriott Tripoli and its 9 concierge floors opened on February 15 but it has already shut down due to the political unrest in the country's capital.
A notice on their website says:
Due to the political unrest in Libya, the JW Marriott Hotel Tripoli is not accepting incoming reservations until further notice. The safety and security of our guests and employees is our top priority and we will continue to evaluate the situation.
Bill Marriott himself blogged about the situation giving more details about the evacuation of the guests and personnel.
