The First Photos of the Missoni Hotel Kuwait, Opening Tomorrow

February 28, 2011 at 5:10 PM | by | Comments (0)

Tomorrow in Kuwait City, the second-ever Hotel Missoni will open its doors, almost two years after the original wowed with its masterfully clashing interiors in Edinburgh, Scotland. Like Edinburgh, the Kuwait hotel will be filled to the brim with objects from the Italian Missoni fashion brand, everything from the coffee cups from which you drink to the decorative pillows you toss off your bed at night. And it's going to have complimentary Maserati chauffeur service from the airport, too. Hello—when can we check in?

Unfortunately for us, the hotel is in Kuwait, which isn't a destination we get around to very much. Edinburgh is a far easier jaunt, but to allay our curiosity, the Missoni has been kind enough to send along some sneak peek, pre-opening snapshots of the lobby, rooms and other public areas. And of course the gold leather sofas...

The Missoni Hotel Kuwait (and Its Maserati Limos) Will Debut on March 1

Weeeee! The Hotel Missoni Kuwait finally has an official, locked-down opening date and—yes—reservations are open and working. The second-ever Missoni Hotel is due to debut with views over the Arabian Gulf on March 1, and although rooms starts $450, there's a 20% off Advance Booking rate still in effect that brings it down to $361 per night.

So why is this hotel so important? Well, we actually made a detour on a trip to London up to Scotland for the specific purpose of personally checking out the first of the Missoni Hotels—the Missoni Hotel Edinburgh—and we loved it, even naming the video tour of the room our Best Hotel Video Tour of 2010.

What's more is that the Missoni Hotels are pioneering a kind of all-inclusiveness that we wish every upscale hotel would adopt as well, and that's tacking on freebies like complimentary WiFi, in-room movies, a few items of laundry, the (non-alcoholic) contents of the minibar, and, with some rates, even complimentary breakfast.

With Fashion's Night Out this week and Fashion Week also upon us, our minds naturally turned to one of the most anticipated Fashion Hotel openings of the year, the Hotel Missoni Kuwait.

Last we heard, the second of the Missoni Hotels was going to open early— this month. But when we went to feast our eyes upon the new hotel in all its glory we were instead greeted with the words, 'Opening Early 2011... book now!'

Bummer. Way to make us feel like it's Monday, even if it is a holiday-week Tuesday.

Missoni's Second Hotel, In Kuwait, May Open Early

June 22, 2010 at 2:50 PM | by | Comments (0)

With only a few more months to go until the second of the new Missoni Hotels chain opens in Kuwait, we thought we'd check on how things are going with them and their rumored complimentary Maserati limos.

Although previously announced as opening in October in the Symphony Centre development, the Hotel Missoni Kuwait has been moved up to a September debut, well over a year since their first property—Hotel Missoni Edinburgh—inaugurated the chain in Scotland.

It still feels like just yesterday that we were saying goodnight to Edinburgh, Scotland and climbing into bed under Missoni sheets at the Hotel Missoni Edinburgh, the first of the Italian fashion brand's hotels to open in the world. But now, since they've just opened booking for their second property coming to Kuwait City this October, we'll have to add Kuwait to our itinerary.

This Kuwait Missoni hotel sounds quite lovely, and at $220 per night on average, it better be. In addition to a complimentary minibar, two items laundry, Wifi and in-room movies, its 18 floors with 169 rooms will overlook the Arabian Gulf and benefit from a Choco Cafe, other restaurants, a Six Senses Spa and a large outdoor pool and terrace. Plus—plus—your room rate includes free Maserati limo pick-up from the airport. Oh man; Kuwait, here we come!

Hotel Missoni Kuwait: All the Colorful Details

March 19, 2009 at 10:18 AM | by | Comments (7)

The Missoni Hotels are coming! The Italian fashion brand famous for its loud, brightly-colored prints, Missoni, is getting set to debut its first two hotels — one in Edinburgh, Scotland this Spring, followed by a Kuwait City property set to debut in August or September.

While the Edinburgh property is going to be done mostly in blacks, whites and silvers, expect the hotel in Kuwait to feature the bright, crazy hues you have come to associate with the brand (lots of gold, turquoise and beige, specifically) across the 106 rooms and 63 suites.

Staybridge Suites Rolls Out in Kuwait

June 11, 2008 at 10:28 AM | by | Comments (0)

Think Kuwait and you may think of Desert Storm and burning oil fields. But did you know this little country is becoming a tourist destination?

It has islands with white sand beaches, coral reefs, archaeological sites, museums, horse-racing clubs, festivals, serious shopping, and an amusement park with a haunted castle.

A testament to the success of the country's long-range tourism plan, Staybridge Suites is partnering with Intercontinental Hotels Group to roll out two new hotels -- and this is just one example of the massive outcrop of hotels and hotel chains that are scheduled to open in Kuwait city.

Amazing Race Hotel Update: Kuwait City

Another Amazing Race episode, another hotel that the racers don't get to stay in.

Last night's show had the group racing from Chennai, India to Kuwait City in Kuwait. The challenges there involve a special type of wall-climbing that serves as a fast-forward, meaning whoever wins it gets to go straight to the final pit stop.

This is won by Dave and Mary who go straight to first place and get to skip the next challenge, loading camel feed or racing a camel with a robotic jockey. We know. This show is totally running out of good challenge ideas.

In the end, Peter the scary Joe Simpson look alike and his girlfriend Sarah are eliminated. Also eliminated? Their relationship which they realize is better as a friendship. See? There can be some good to going on reality TV show.

Anyhow, we checked in on Kuwait City and while it's no Dubai we did find a pretty broad selection of hotels from a Crowne Plaza to a Luxury Collection and Four Points by Starwood to a JW Marriott. There's even two Holiday Inns in Kuwait City.

What's voted the most popular on TripAdvisor is the Courtyard Kuwait, a business traveler's hotel, where rooms are on average above $200 but the place has central location, clean rooms, helpful staff and a four-star rating.

Sometimes, it actually pays to watch reality TV. Otherwise, we may never haved looked at Kuwait City hotels. Now, if only "The Bachelor" were more educational....
