Will The British Pound's Tumble Open Up European Deals For Americans?

It used to be that Americans were functionally blocked out of travel packages like this great seven night holiday at the 4-star Hotel Louis Phaethon Beach in Cyprus. The deal is marketed to British tourists and pegged for the British pound, coming in at a pretty decent £610 per person for the transportation-inclusive vacation. There are other options floating around for the Hotel Louis for up to £200 less if you're willing to go during the winter.

The problem is that even a £400 vacation package last March would have been almost $800 for an American. The exchange rate has gotten a little more even, though it's up from where it was in January. Today £400 is about $650. The bigger question is how the travel industry will adjust now that the British pound is tumbling. Hotels.com is on the story, suggesting both that prices will change and that more deals will appear, at least from the British perspective:

EasyHotel Cyprus Wants to Play Beach Bingo With You

With Valentine's Day right around the corner, some hotels just know the right buttons to push to get us in the mood. Take easyHotel for instance, talking up "balmy summer evenings" and "cool cocktails" "in the sun."

In an effort to pimp its latest hotel in Larnaka, Greece, easyHotel is offering rooms for 30 euro (about $38). Seemingly, this is the chain's first hotel geared toward the leisure traveler (Heathrow and Kensington are all about business) and rooms are said to be bigger than the usual easyHotel accommodations. The property is just a five-minute walk from Phoinikoudes beach, as well as some area attractions like the Medieval Fort, St. Lazarus Church, the Archaeological Museum and the ancient site of Kition, so you and your honey will have plenty to do if you hit this place up for V-Day.

You know good deals are hard to find, so book quickly because there are just 56 budget-friendly rooms in the joint — but we promise they're not so budget friendly that they're missing air conditioning and en-suite bathrooms. You can still get your romance on.

Cyprus Villa Impresses Guest

[Ed Note: Hotel Maven Melanie let's us in on a giant seaside villa she found in Cyprus earlier this year. We think it is this one. Enjoy.]

This year I had an excellent vacation on Cyprus! I came with my family and all our friends with kids. We rented a splendid huge villa in Protaras. The villa was 6 bedrooms, the furniture was excellent, and I have never stayed in such a beautiful villa. Everybody liked the place, but the children had a particularly good time. Close by there is a hotel, which has a lot of facilities for children, and a really nice live show in the evening. Well, what can I say - it was superb!!! I wish to have such a vacation every year!

Taradise: Seaside Massage at Leptos Thalassa

Did you hear the sounds bellowing from Tara during here seaside massage at Leptos Thalassa? My god. When we went walrus hunting on the barren Chukota peninsula last winter, where the abundance of amplified walrus growls drown out your every thought, we didn't here sounds as foul and wretched as Tara was making on that massage table.

So I guess, we are saying she enjoyed the massage. After all, she did end the massage with a bit of Trumpian hyperbole, saying something about it being the best in the world.

Then again, what is not to like about a seaside massage in Cyprus at an exclusive resort?

Taradise: Accommodations Provided By Le Meridien Cyprus

Le Meridein Limassol provided the accommodations for Tara and her crew as the train wreck filmed show four in Cyprus.

The show did not concentrate on this hotel much-- you see concentrating on anything is quite hard to because the shows star is busy drinking her face off at the local clubs--but we digress.

A recent Le Meridien visitor had this to day about Tara's digs:

We have just returned from a long weekend in le meridien limassol spa and resort. The hotel is presented by the media and the company' s marketing policy as an excellent hotel and spa resort who also has won many world travel awards, but by the moment you arrive you understand that all these are only words......

For the most part, guests who stay at this hotel in the summer months seem to enjoy the property much more than those who bed down here during the winter.

See, Cobain was right. Weather changes moods.

Since the Greek part of Cyprus joined the EU last summer, a bevy of stylish hotels have opened on the island. The Thanos hotel group has three such properties on the island of escalating price and ocean front luxury.

Almyra, is a sister property of the most luxurious and expensive of the Thanos trio, the Anassa, and offers a lesser degree of luxury to the budget conscious traveler, without sacrificing beauty or service.

Almyra is a contemporary beach hotel which was recently refurbished (March 2004). Two freshwater pools were rebuilt to include one especially for children and the two main restaurants have been relaunched. Furthermore, during the renovation, all rooms were enlarged, and the Kyma Suite features a rooftop terrace with sea vistas.

The Almyra is the least expensive of the Thanos group, and attracts the youngest crowd.
