New trend alert: African safari camps are going luxe. Sure in the past you could find a treetop tented camp with an outdoor shower, but these days it is full on tented luxury in Botswana.
Botswana's Vumbura Plains is one such luxury camp. Bordering on the Moremi Game Reserve in Mombo, you go to Vumbura Plains to view big game in style. The main activity is hopping in a Land Rover and traversing up and down the 130,000 acre reserve trying to spot lions, leopards, elephants, cheetahs, and the like. However, once done searching for wild game you can kick back in your high end design camp and enjoy a sundowner. 14 bedded camps are linked by wooden boardwalks all with a lounge, an indoor shower, an outdoor shower, flushing toilets, and a plunge pool.
As a nod to the its surroundings, the Vubura does use indigenous timbers, stone and fabrics--in an avant-garde style of course.

Last nights Amazing Race ended at the Khai River Lodge, one of the oldest safari lodges in Botswana.
This camp offers expansive views of the Khwai River and plenty of opportunities to gawk at all the African wildlife you can dream up. Hippos, elephants, antelopes, cheetahs, all occupy the land around the riverbank.
The Khwai River Lodge also includes a teak viewing deck, and a heated pool on the property for reclining and relaxing, respectively.
One more piece of good news, drinks come with, so you can look forward to sundowners after a long day of searching for game.
