Inside The Bachelor's Valentine's Day Pad at the CuisinArt Resort on Anguilla

A special Valentine's Day episode of The Bachelor, which of course aired last night, was filmed at the tony CuisinArt Resort on the Caribbean island of Anguilla. The hotel, a favorite of Michael Jordan, Derek Jeter, his girlfriend Minka Kelly and Oprah hosted Brad Womack, the easy-on-the-eyes love-seeking Bachelor, as well as six young ladies looking to be The One.

The two-hour long episode was filmed during the resort's annual closedown last year, so the man had the whole resort to himself to individually court each gal. It's no wonder he didn't pick a woman the last go-round in 2007. And while we think he was kind of a jerk to leave the women of that season hanging, with perks like this we'd be hesitant to get locked down too. Anyway, CuisinArt just introduced six private three-and five-bedroom beachfront and garden view villas, where the group stayed. We just happen to be here and thought we'd give you a look inside their very swank rooms.

It may not be Kelly Wearstler's favorite hotel, but the Viceroy Anguilla can hold its own in the high roller department, thanks very much.

A new program at the resort is covering guests flights--to the tune of $6,000. Of course, that doesn't mean you and 10 friends can fly coach and stay in the cheapest room category. This insane hotel package is reserved for guests who book one of Viceroy Anguilla's four-bedroom villas.

The Spa

We've got the Caribbean on our mind this week, and now we've heard about this final phase of prettying-up down at the Viceroy Anguilla we've found the next object of our Caribbean-craving daydreams.

As we mentioned recently, the honeymoon-spot of choice for Kerr-Bloom was recently sold to Starwood Capital but will remain a Viceroy, with all the sophisticated design and service that entails.

Starwood Capital has snagged itself a now-finished Viceroy, to boot: the third and final phase of work on the property has added two new restaurants, two new pools, additional rooms, beach access, meeting rooms, and the Spa at Viceroy Anguilla.

The Viceroy Anguilla to Remain The Viceroy Anguilla

Yesterday we reported that the Viceroy Anguilla had been sold to Starwood Capital which had us concerned for the future of the Viceroy brand. Even though Viceroy Hotel Group is primarily a management company, nothing is for certain when a sale is involved.

However, the hotel's reps have assured us today that the Viceroy will remain a Viceroy.

Citibank has recently marketed for sale the loan secured by the Viceroy Anguilla. While the ownership of that loan may change hands, Viceroy Hotel Group’s management of Viceroy Anguilla as part of its Viceroy Hotels & Resorts brand remains unchanged.

Phew. That's good to know. Of course, these things can always change again in the future and we'll do our best to keep you updated.

Got the goss on what's happening with Viceroy Anguilla? Slip it to us!

Will The Viceroy Anguilla No Longer Be a Viceroy Hotel?

On the heels of celebrity newlywed guests, Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr, comes stunning news that The Viceroy Anguilla has been sold. Even worse, it may no longer be a Viceroy Hotel.

The Daily Herald, a small island publication, reports that the hotel, which only opened last December, has been sold to Starwood Capital, ole' Barry Sternlicht's company. (Remember, Starwood Capital is different from Starwood Hotels.)

As it turns out the previous owners of Viceroy Anguilla (that would be Viceroy and their partner, the Mubadala Development Company) had not completed its loan payments, forcing Citibank to come in and take over the property. It was Citibank who completed the sale of $500 million to Starwood Capital.

In case you hadn't heard the devastating happy news: Orlando Bloom is now a married man. He quietly wed his Victoria's Secret model squeeze Miranda Kerr a week or so ago. Details are hazy, but we do know that the pair spent some quality time together at the Viceroy Anguilla last week. (Looks like someone took HotelChatter's Caribbean Guide recommendation to heart.)

People magazine tells us that Kerr was there for a VS shoot but was joined by Bloom in a super-swish villa.

Rekindle the Romance or Dump Your Spouse at the Arawak Beach Inn

There are honeymoon hotels, babymoon or conceptionmoon hotels, divorce hotels and now apparently, makeup or breakup hotels.

The Arawak Beach Inn on the island of Anguilla is putting to good use the recent statistics that the US divorce rate is around 40 percent and capitalizing on the public spits of celeb couples like Reese and Ryan, Pam and Kid, Britney and K-Fed by offering couples a vacation to ultimately decide whether their union is worth salvaging or dismantling.

Boasting plenty of opportunities to talk things out, the Make or Break Escape includes two intimate dinners at the Arawak's Beach Café (or served in-room for the utmost privacy).   For couples in need of total seclusion for more heated conversations, the package also features a day trip to an uninhabited island.  Arawak's oceanfront accommodations offer a choice of either a queen bed or, for those anticipating a need for space, two beds.  For the partner who needs to take a drive to contemplate the future of the relationship, one-day car rental is included.  Daily breakfast (regardless if it is a table for one or two) and round trip airport transfers are also built in to the package.

If things end up working out, book your vow renewal and second honeymoon here. Or if not, they got a Me, Myself and I package for ya too. Unfortunately, the hotel has gotten some bad reviews about the accommodations. But maybe these were just from some of the bitter, breaking up couples.

This is what we have been waiting for--

, Anguilla's brand spankin' new luxury resort for the rest of us, has put together a couple killer packages just in time for winter here in the Northeast:

·   Love at Ku is a seven day package for two including: continental breakfast daily, and four dinners for two (booze not included), a bottle of wine on arrival, a one-hour massage for two, sunset cruise, and one-day car rental. Must travel January 17-March 31 starting at $2,270-$2,540.

·   Escape to Ku is a four night package including double accommodation, two dinners for two, a bottle of wine on arrival, sunset cruise, welcome rum beverage. Must travel January 17-March 31 starting at $1,725-$2,110.

You can also email Ku for more package details.

The resort is on the white powder beach of Shoal Bay East, suites come with air-conditioning, dining + living room, full kitchen, tv, radio, DVD/CD player, and some sort of balcony.

Remeber, Kú is new, and still working out the kinks.  Don't expect Cap Juluca, roll with the punches that come with a hotel in beta, and you should be good to go.

Oh, and as always, if you go, let us know what you think of the place--and yes, we like photos too.

With The Kids Away, Parents Can Cheaply Stay

We had no idea that dropping over hundreds of thousands of dollars on your kids "education" qualified you for anything besides financial hardship.

Turns out, some hotels realize the financial pinch parents undergo once they send the troops off to college, and offer great deals for recent empty nesters. One such deal is the $999 seven night package being offered at Anguilla's Arawak Beach Inn. Remember "Island Love"? Well it looks like they are lookin' to reconnect empty nest couples as well.

Celebrating the next phase of your life sans kids in the British Virgin Islands with a bottle of champagne and massages, certainly is one way to avoid your kids' empty bedrooms and nagging phone calls for more cash.

Hollywood is Hookin' Up Regularly at Cap Juluca in Anguilla

So, we're thinking there's something in water near Maundes Bay. Do you remember some beachy photos of Jay-Z and Beyonce, they were taken at Cap Juluca. Gwen and Gavin? Cap Juluca. Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick? Brad & Jen's last fling? Yeah... Uh huh.

Travel + Leisure magazine readers awarded this five-star, Moorish style hotel with very high marks in the June 2005 issue. Furthermore the Cap Juluca was named one of the world's top three hotels in the Caribbean by T&L in August 2005.

Here is what one recent TripAdvisor hotel guest had to say about all the love in the air:

This was a perfect resort for those who wanted a romantic getaway! Everything couldn't have been more perfect. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We were told that the resort was booked when we went, but you wouldn't have know it. The beach and restaurants were never crowded.

When we sat on the beach during the day a staff member would bring around bottled water, towels, and ice cold washcloths to cool you off. Sorbet was served everyday at 3pm on the beach.

We ended up staying in two different rooms because the room we originally wanted was booked for the first two nights of our stay. The first two nights we stayed in Villa 9 room 5. This room was the only room in the villa to have a very private upper balcony and a perfect view. The rest of our stay we were in Villa 1 room 1. This room had the solarium bathroom, which was great, but it was on the first floor, so not as nice as a view as one on the second floor. The restaurants have some wonderful dishes. George's is the most casual one and has the best chocolate bread pudding I have ever had.

Sorbet on the beach, a solarium bathroom, and chocolate bread pudding? Yeah, it all comes with a hefty price tag, but folks leave happy. Oh, and remember, early next year, the step down alternative is coming.

Anguilla Readies for Ku

September 15, 2005 at 2:45 PM | by | Comments (0)

Cap Juluca is the kind of Anguila resort where Brad Pitt takes Jennifer Anniston for one last fling, so, yeah, most of us will never get a sniff of the place.  Lucky for us, the Cap Juluca crew is opening Ku, a smaller, more affordable version of the original hotel.

The new place promises Miami beach interiors, freshwater pools, a sweet beachside local, and you should be able to get a room for an introductory rate of somewhere just above $100 a night.

Each of the whitewashed villas will afford all 50+ guests a view of Shoal Bay East, and you know it has to be better than the Shoal Bay Beach Hotel, the property that use to occupy this spot.

note: TripAdvisor's current reviews on this property are on the old Shoal Bay Beach Hotel not Ku.

Sounds promising, stay tuned.
