Martin Hotel Basques in the Recognition

This started as a random story picked up through Google News. It seems the Martin Hotel in Winnemucca, NV was just added to the National Register of Historic Places. "That's neat," I thought, "Good HC tidbit."

What I didn't know was that Winnemucca, and Nevada in general, is apparently a little pocket of Basque culture here in the States. There's a Basque festival in Winnemucca every June, and the Martin Hotel serves Basque food. Who knew?

My only real experience with Nevada occurred in Wells, which isn't exactly an outpost of any kind of culture, and sometimes doesn't serve any kind of food at all.
