Pan Pacific Hotels in Whistler Still Have Rooms Open for The Winter Olympics

The 2010 Winter Olympics will kick off in Vancouver and Whistler, Canada in just a few short months and we fer sure thought that the city's and ski resort's hotel rooms would be long gone by now. In fact, wasn't someone planning to dock a cruise ship in Vancouver to increase the hotel room supply?
Well, thankfully you won't have to train your sea legs. You just have to dip into your savings. The Pan Pacific Whistler has released a limited supply of suites for "public consumption." (Yes, that's what the press release actually said.)
The rooms are open from February 11 to February 28, 2010 at both the Pan Pacific Whistler Mountainside and Pan Pacific Whistler Village Centre. Guests must reserve a five-night minimum stay. The average room rate is about $1,119 CAD a night for a 1-bedroom suite with a mountain view. Yes, we know. $1,119 a night. And in U.S. dollars it's not that much of a difference--$1,080.

$99 Sale at Fairmont Chateau Whistler Starts Tomorrow
The last time we visited the Fairmont Chateau Whistler (a few weeks ago, in fact), the ultra-luxe slopeside retreat blew us away with its four-season killer views, 550 swanky rooms and nightly Fondue event. But the rates blew us away, too; they were running a steep $429 CAD on average. Bleh.
However! Good news: the hotel is celebrating its 20th year in '09, and to commemorate the occasion, those kind Canadian folks at Fairmont Chateau Whistler are offering 20 rooms every day for the remainder of 2009 at $99 and rezzies open up tomorrow (Wednesday).

Pan Pacific Whistler Offering Decent Ski Season Deals

On the heels of our Whistler Hotel Guide, we've learned that the ski resort's two Pan Pacific Hotels have announced new "value added preference" packages. Both the Pan Pacific Mountainside and Pan Pacific Whistler Village Centre are giving guests “pre-paid internet special” with a “Lock in Your Exchange Rate” offer.
Starting at... $319CAD (about $253 USD) from January 4th through April 25th, those who book online at panpacificwest.com, will enjoy increasing savings for booking multiple nights, adding up to a free night’s stay for those reserving five consecutive room nights.
The ascending savings’ scale is as follows:
· 10 percent discount per night off any room type for three nights booked
· 15 percent discount per night off any room type for four nights booked
· 20 percent discount per night off any room type for five nights booked
The catch here is that you must pay in advance, thus locking in your currency exchange rate. It's also subject to limited availability and is non-refundable, non-cancellable. And remember, the Mountainside hotel is closer to the slopes so rooms will be more over there. All this is making us go..."eh." But the rooms do have complimentary internet, complimentary local phone calls, an in-resort shuttle and complimentary breakfast.
We're curious. Have you ever stayed at Pan Pacific Hotel before? What was it like? Let us know.

More Hotels to Explore in Whistler

Please don't think that the only hotels to stay in when you visit Whistler are the ones we talked about in our Whistler Hotel Guide. In fact, we found it hard to keep track of all the lodgings right in Whistler Village and we didn't even get around to all the lodgings outside the Village. Oh and don't forget apartment rentals too.
As always, where you want to stay depends on the budget you have, the scene you are looking for and if being close to the slopes is really important to you. We tried to address a little bit of everything in some of our hotel picks, listed after the jump.

Budget-ish Accommodations at the Holiday Inn Whistler
This week, we've taken a trip to the Winter Wonderland that is Whistler in British Columbia, Canada. Aside from enjoying the snow, the mountains and the adorable Canadian accents, we've also been checking out the hotel scene. Every day we'll sum up a hotel in the Whistler Village for your edification. Remember this place will be jammed packed next year with guests as the host of the 2010 Winter Olympics. Any questions? Let us know.

Now that we've rounded up where Hugh Jackman stays in Whistler as well as the two slopeside hotels that don't come cheap (the Hilton and the Fairmont) we thought we would take a look at the more reasonably priced Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort.
The hotel is located at the edge of the village next to Blackcomb Way but it is still within manageable walking distance to the slopes, even in ski boots.
The hotel looks pleasant on the outside but on the inside the rooms are a bit of an eyesore. While they do all have kitchenettes and fireplaces they also sport some crazy patterns. If you don't believe us, check out the hotel's Flickr photoset. But a few photos from this hotel guest don't look too bad. It is a Holiday Inn after all.
The hotel has a fitness center on-site as well as secured ski locker area, a 24-hour front desk and room service on request.
An advance purchase rate of $204CAD was available for next weekend for a queen deluxe studio which has a double murphy bed as well. That's about $161 in US dollars. Not bad. However, this requires a full pre-payment and is totally nonrefundable. Regular rack rates begin at $239CAD or $189USD.

The Fairmont Chateau For Slopeside Luxury
This week, we've taken a trip to the Winter Wonderland that is Whistler in British Columbia, Canada. Aside from enjoying the snow, the mountains and the adorable Canadian accents, we've also been checking out the hotel scene. Every day we'll sum up a hotel in the Whistler Village for your edification. Remember this place will be jammed packed next year with guests as the host of the 2010 Winter Olympics. Any questions? Let us know.

While the Hilton Whistler can certainly accommodate all your ski-in, ski-out needs, a more luxe slopeside experience can be found at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler.
We've already drooled over the hotel's killer view and that wasn't even in the winter. When there's snow on the ground, it looks far more magical. Another magical view of the hotel can be seen from the mountains. So when your legs are about to tire out from skiing all day (in our case, one hour), just look at the Fairmont for some motivation to propel you downhill. Magical indeed.

The Hilton Whistler Fits Your Ski-In, Ski-Out Requirements
This week, we've taken a trip to the Winter Wonderland that is Whistler in British Columbia, Canada. Aside from enjoying the snow, the mountains and the adorable Canadian accents, we've also been checking out the hotel scene. Every day we'll sum up a hotel in the Whistler Village for your edification. Remember this place will be jammed packed next year with guests as the host of the 2010 Winter Olympics. Any questions? Let us know.

There are actually quite a few hotels in Whistler Village, and we do mean right in Whistler Village. No shuttle required. So when The Hilton Whistler boasts about being steps from the Whistler Blackcomb chairlifts and gondolas, it ain't misbehaving in saying that.
Above all, you should stay here if being close to the slopes is important to you. It is truly ski-in, ski-out and there's even a ski butler in the lobby to help store your equipment when you're not using it.

Hugh Jackman and Eric Bana Take the Family to Four Seasons Whistler
This week, we've taken a trip to the Winter Wonderland that is Whistler in British Columbia, Canada. Aside from enjoying the snow, the mountains and the adorable Canadian accents, we've also been checking out the hotel scene. Every day we'll sum up a hotel in the Whistler Village for your edification. Remember this place will be jammed packed next year with guests as the host of the 2010 Winter Olympics. Any questions? Let us know.

The Four Seasons Whistler is not quite a ski-in, ski-out hotel. There is a ski concierge located at the base of the Blackcomb mountain but you still have to walk a little bit (no more than 5 minutes, maybe 10 in ski boots) from the slopes to the hotel.
Then again, if you like to measure the value of a hotel based on its celebrity guests, look no further.
On Sunday night while the Golden Globes were taking place in Hollywood, Ozzie actors Eric Bana and Hugh Jackman were dining with their families at the hotel's Fifty Two 80 restaurant. Jackman, the 2009 Oscars host and 2008's Sexiest Man Alive, was casual in jeans and a blue zippered sweatered. Bana sported a similar casual outfit but instead with a beige sweater. Both had several hyperactive kids in tow.

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Ski Season

It feels like Halloween is barely over, but the folks over in Whistler, B.C. are already thinking snow.
The ski town’s Adara Hotel is offering an early season getaway package that includes two night’s accommodations in a Superior guestroom (get an upgrade for just $30 more per night), free valet parking and two two-day lift tickets to Whistler Blackcomb ski resort.
The package, available December 12-19 for $550 per night, coincides with the opening of Whistler’s latest attraction: the PEAK2PEAK gondola, an 1.88-mile unsupported freespan linking Whistler and Blackcomb, which, not so coincidentally, opens December 12.

Room With a Killer View :: Fairmont Chateau Whistler's View Almost Looks Photoshopped
We are suckers for a room with a killer view. We find that we are even more likely to forgive some minor hotel inconveniences if we can stare out the window at something pretty--yeah we are that shallow. Let's help out our fellow hotel mavens by uploading rooms with killer views to the HotelChatter/Flickr photo pool, or by sending the photo along to us. We will feature our favorites in this space from time to time. Remember to tell us the name of the hotel and the room number of the hot view.

Are we right or are we right: this view from the Fairmont Chateau Whistler is so pretty that it literally looks majorly photoshopped. Seriously, doesn't it look like those mountains in the back were inserted as an afterthought? Having been to this spot ourselves, we can promise you that this photo is authentic.
Located at the base of Blackcomb Mountain, the resort offers 550 rooms and four restaurants (plus afternoon tea service in the winter!) -- with two more restaurants at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Club next door.
Our favorite thing: if you book the Ski & Accommodation Package in the winter, the hotel offers a snow guarantee: if there isn't "1,500 feet of terrain or more open on Whistler Blackcomb" during your stay between November 27th and December 19th, your lift tickets are refunded and you can get your money back for your second night's room. Or you can just stick around and drink tea and enjoy the view.

Casino Royale Package a Good Deal at Whistler's Adara Hotel

Up at Whistler the Adara Hotel has put together a special deal during the Cornucopia food and wine festival this year: it's the Casino Royale Party Package which you can book for November 7 only.
Along with two tickets to the nearby Casino Royale Cornucopia Party, you'll get accommodation in a superior guestroom and the chance to upgrade to a Loft Suite for just C$30 more; without upgrading the package price is just C$269 for two. They say that party tickets are $125 per person so that does sound like a great deal if you're interested in the event.

Nita Lake Lodge:: Whistler's Boutique Hotel Set for December Opening

The Nita Lake Lodge is set to open this December as Whistler's first boutique hotel just steps from the site of the 2010 Winter Olympics.
The Nita Lake Lodge sits at the base of Whistler Mountain on the quiet shores of Nita Lake. Here you can breathe in the fresh alpine air, conquer the ski slopes or simply relax in the restaurant or spa. Each of the resort's 77 luxurious suites has state-of-the-art facilities: most offer spectacular views of Whistler Mountain and Nita Lake.
The lodge will also feature a Station Spa, a retro-themed restaurant and residences. But sadly, there is little other information on the hotel's website and nothing but stock photos of Whistler. However, through the flash gallery we were able to screen-cap this rendering of the place.
The only other info we could find is that Boutique Hotels & Resorts of BC is managing the place and they have a whole bunch of properties they will manage in the area next year. And although Nita Lake hasn't opened yet, the place is already a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World group. Just remember this hotel is different from the Nita Lake in Vancouver.
