The Hotel Indigo people seem to be sure that global financial woes are a thing of the past, because they're forging ahead with their expansion plans in Asia. After signing a deal for the Hotel Indigo Shanghai to open next year, they've been quick to follow up with the promise of the Hotel Indigo Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong version should be ready to open in 2012 and will be located in the Wan Chai district of Hong Kong – a northern part of Hong Kong Island which is known for its historical value. The hotel itself sounds like it will be something a bit different:

The architectural concept features a conspicuous dragon in burnished bronze wrapped around the building, functioning as an "eco-screen" to counteract the hot spots and solar gain.

We can't wait to see that in real life. There should be even more Asian Indigos to follow – the smart money is on Tokyo and Singapore as likely locations for the next hotels.

There are the Grand Hyatts of the world, and then there is the Hong Kong Grand Hyatt. As the ambassador hotel for the entire Grand Hyatt chain, the HK property located on Victoria Harbour lives up to its name by doing everything in a truly grand style. We took a little time from our busy schedule of eating dim sum and window shopping to engage in our favorite time killer: the hotel high tea.

Served Monday thru Friday from 1-6pm and with limited seatings on the weekends, the tea service held in the Tiffin Lounge is nothing to sniff at; it's got enough petit fours to satisfy the most proper of ladies while also upping the ante with several dim sum dishes. Did we mention that it's a buffet? Come in, have a seat by the floor-to-ceiling glass windows with a view to the famous skyline, order from the tea menu and then go fill up plate after plate of macaroons, egg salad sandwiches and Shanghai pork dumplings.
