Pod craze, Swiss style

December 14, 2004 at 8:09 AM | by | Comments (0)

Now this is our idea of roughing it.  A high-class pod in the middle of nowhere Switzerland, complete with organic meals, freshly squeezed juice, and a pre-loaded Ipod for your musical needs.  Even though the Ipod is probably loaded with a snooze fest full of Eco Challenge new age crap, this mountain pod experience still sounds like a trip.

Whitepod consists of five geodesic domes that rise out of nowhere in the mountains of Switzerland.  You can only get the resort/campground/mountain experience by skis or snowshoes, and your luggage arrives via snowmobile.

Here is what the Guardian had to say about the sleek, tricked out tents:

Whitepod is where Bonington meets Bond. It is snowbound camping for the Wallpaper* magazine set. It is hi-tech, low-impact winter vacationing - a modernist, eco-centric, shagadelic chalet village. And right now, it is the very cutting-edge of mountain accommodation.

All that and you even get your very own Swiss mountain men at your disposal.  These guys are trained in the arts of extreme mountaineering, and will help you in any and all of your snow faring activities while you are staying at Whitepod.

Charges are around £240pp per night, with a two night minimum, including food and drink, transfers from Geneva airport, ski passes and guides - improving downhill technique, off-piste, snowboarding, cross country and snowshoeing.
