Vero Beach Travel Guide
Every Valentine's Day, we're inundated with crazy hotel packages that would require a Real Housewives-sized budget (and aren't all that inventive). So this week, we're taking a look at affordable, but fun deals that us regular folks would book.
With any luck, the stars will align for zodiac zealots at the Vero Beach Hotel during Valentine's Day. The Florida hotel is offering a Star-Crossed Lovers package where you'll get your fill of celestial bodies, and we don't (just) mean your valentine.
If you’ve been following our sister site Jaunted's coverage of the newly opened Wizarding World of Harry Potter , you’ve already gotten the inside scoop on the theme park and are probably in line to ride Harry Potter and The Forbidden Journey. Be sure you don’t throw away that Universal Studios ticket. Nearby Vero Beach Hotel & Spa will give you a free room upgrade if you flash your Wizarding World ticket stub.
When your feet—and wallet—tire of perusing wands in the Wizarding World Shops, kick up your tootsies at this oceanfront hotel, which is an hour and a half southeast of Orlando.
Grand Opening Rates at Kimpton's Vero Beach Hotel
Cold got you down? Go to the beach but try something new: Vero Beach, Florida, a small-ish destination nestled in Central Florida’s Indian River County, is definitely a quiet alternative to the Miami scene (especially during the stressful holiday season; do you really want to pay $20 for weak pina coladas and too-loud reggaton right now?)
Kimpton just opened up their newest boutique hotel on the beach, The Vero Beach Hotel, and they're celebrating (or luring you there) with killer opening rates. And free food, too! Imagine your luck! For stays up through February 12, 2009:
· $149 per night Sundays through Thursdays
· $169 per night on Fridays and Saturdays
· A daily $20 Food & Beverage Credit for dining in Heaton's Reef Bar & Grill, the Indigo Room or room service
· Upgrade to a one bedroom suite for just $50 more per day
The spa is still under construction and won't be ready to go until the Fall of 2009, but until then, they're offering in-room spa services.
Check availability and make your reservations here.
And the verdict? All three guest reviews have given the hotel four out of five stars. Guests were satisfied with the location (rooms "20 feet from the pool and 50 yards from the ocean"), the rooms and even the green attributes like "green flushing instructions."
There were, of course, a few service-related kinks that needed to be worked out, but that's to be expected of a brand new hotel (though still unacceptable) - but user goldring suggested maybe the staff should go to the Ritz for training (ooooh, burn!)

Miami Sound Machine fans, you can soon stay in Gloria Estefan's new hotel. The Latin pop singer held a ribbon cutting ceremony for her new hotel Costa D'Este in Vero Beach yesterday. The hotel will officially open to guests on Monday.
The Palm Beach Post reports:
The Vero place has a distinct Miami Beach look, with porthole windows and Art Deco shapes. Rooms will run about $190 when the place opens to the masses Monday and up to $350 in season.
The hotel will also feature a beachfront restaurant, Oriente, which will serve Cuban cuisine of course.
This is actually Estefan's second hotel. She already runs the Cardozo in Miami. We bet we know what's gonna be on the iPod playlists in these hotels.
