Torino 2006: Hotel Victoria
In two different round-ups about Torino and things to do and see there aside from the Winter Games, the Hotel Victoria was listed as a place to stay.
First the Orlando Sentinel called it:
A place of British-inspired charm, where [there was] a sweet little room decorated in red toile.
Then the San Francisco Chronicle listed it as a:
Centrally located, comfortable Victorian-theme hotel with big bedrooms, marble-clad bathrooms, and a great buffet breakfast.
The hotel is located within downtown Turin, has 100 rooms and has been run by the same family since 1961. An added bonus? They have free wi-fi service.
Unfortunately, one guest's stay was slightly tainted by some bad breakfast offerings:
On two of the mornings, the fruit was fresh and appetizing, on the two other mornings, there were moldy oranges in the mix, which effectively dulled my appetite.
That doesn't sound like the breakfast of champions, now does it?

NY Times Goes To Pre-Olympic Turin

The NY Times checked in to The Grand Hotel Sitea in Turin, which is a ten minute walk from where the Olympic medals ceremony will be held nightly next February.
By the time the Olympics begin the hotel will have completed a full blown refurb. Six more rooms, high-speed Internet in all 120 rooms, and a brand new facade.
The bottom line according to the Times?
The traditional crowd will feel perfectly at home in this distinguished hotel. The staff is attentive, friendly and bilingual.
Sure, we buy that, but unless you are one of those shipping heirs, we highly doubt you will get a sniff of a room in this place during the Olympics--unless you booked years in advance.
Of course you could also visit right before or after the games.

Le Meridien Lingotto In Turin Italy

Billed as a business hotel outside the center of Turin, we think Le Meridien Lingotto sounds like a lot more than your run-of-the-mill business hotel.
The hotel occupies the old Fiat factory, and guests can jog around the one kilometre rooftop test track, which was formerly used by test Fiats. The track was also featured in the original Italian Job movie circa 1969.
We know, some of you are shocked that Marky Mark's version wasn't the original, you'll get over it.
With the 2006 Olympics coming to Turin, Le Meridien sounds like a good place to check out if you are into hotels with design flare, and who isn't.
