Duke's Forest Lodge in Kerala, south-west India, looks so nice from the website. That's surely what bloggers Phil and Claire thought too, until their own miserable experience taught them otherwise. According to the bloggers, the resort didn't quite live up to the expectations they'd had. For example:

Although the room is very large with a lovely balcony right next to the pool and we have our own small pool/Jacuzzi underneath our villa, we have no tv, no fridge, no aircon and no shops we can buy anything from. Insects can get into our room and we only have a very feeble fan miles above the bed.

Love those insect-infested rooms. Things didn't get any better outside the room, either:

The guy from reception that looks after the place appeared blind drunk upon our arrival; he could hardly talk or walk and was very rude when answering the phone. The food is probably the worst we have ever had; it is not like me to leave much but I have hardly eaten anything here

As if that's not bad enough, they'd agreed (they thought) through their internet booking that all meals would be included in the price; on arrival, their friendly reception guy said they'd have to pay for lunch and dinner. And out in the middle of nowhere, there wasn't much choice. So while India's Kerala might be a fantastic state to visit, there might be some problems with Duke's.
