'The Bachelorette' Takes Her Hostages, Er, Men to Tahiti

July 29, 2010 at 1:56 PM | by | Comments (0)

Ok folks, here's the deal. We have zero interest in "The Bachelorette" Ali Fedotowsky and her quest to find the man of her dreams. Call us jaded or whatever but we think "The Bachelor/Bachelorette" track record for "true love" speaks for itself.

However, we do get our kicks from the sexy destinations where the final rose ceremony goes down. Last season's "The Bachelor", found Jake and his girls in St. Lucia at two different romantic resorts and this season, Ali takes her beefcakes to Tahiti Hotels.

Everyone shacked up at the Hilton Bora Bora Nui (formerly a Starwood Hotel) but a few date activities were also planned at the nearby Le Taha'a Island Resort & Spa. The scenes were shot in early May and according to the rags, Ali has indeed picked a poor unfortunate soul to torture fiancee!

When In Tahiti, Do As the Le Méridien Does

It's sad, but it's true: if you're in the midst of a dream vacation week on Tahiti, there is a point at which you will get antsy to do something other than slather yourself in tanning oil and kick back with John Grisham. This is exactly what the Le Méridien Tahiti discovered last year after it launched L’Atelier du Chef, a series of intimate cooking classes with hands-on instruction from Executive Chef Sebastien Philizot. The program ended up being so popular as an addition to the all-inclusive escape that Le Méridien is back in 2009 with an entire series of "culture offerings" at L'Atelier, the resort's artist space.

You might want to brush up on your knowledge of French Polynesia.

In celebration of its 10th anniversary, Air Tahiti Nui has launched a quiz contest centered on trivia of the collection of isles. Correctly answer the questions, and be entered to win a free trip to Tahiti on the airline, departing from New York or Los Angeles, as well as one night at the Le Méridien Tahiti (pictured), which sits on the white sandy beaches of the Punaauia region. (Sounds good, oui?)

Two winners will be announced each week through November 30, and with 10 trips up for grabs, your chance of winning ain’t too shabby.

It’s just cultivating that little bit of French Polynesian smarts you have to worry about, because really, what else do you know about it except that you want to go there. Now. For free.

We're Dreaming of Tahiti But We'll Probably Pass on the Sheraton

Some might say that if you want to visit paradise, Tahiti isn't the absolute epitomy of paradise any more: but we're romantics, we like Gaugin paintings and we still have a real craving to try out Tahiti for ourselves.

So when we found that the Sheraton Hotel Tahiti ranks up as #2 of all Tahiti hotels on TripAdviser, we thought this might not be a bad spot to stay. However, whether that's true or not depends very much on who you listen to.

Intercontinental Tahiti Starts With A Pretty Nice Pool

The first of a string of international hotels to open on Tahiti, and still one of the most popular even after it got taken over by Intercontinental, some people still talk of the Tahiti Intercontinental Resort as the Beachcomber. And Beachcomber is definitely a more attractive name when we want to think about tropical island vacations.

But whatever you call it, it's probably pretty clear that the Tahiti Intercontinental is a place we wouldn't mind staying at. Above all, it's got a really fantastic pool, and although the restaurant food is a little pricey, most guests rave about it. It's not just the food that's a little expensive though as the cheapest room rates usually start at $300 a night, too.

If you spend too long checking out their website, you're likely to land on French pages that don't seem to have a translation, which can be a bit annoying. However, we do like that they've got a webcam up on their site (and webcam is obviously the same word in French!), because we reckon we don't see enough of them these days--unfortunately it was night time in Tahiti when we looked, so we plan to take another look a bit later on. We're not voyeuristic at all.

Pitch Your Hotel: Nicolas Orget of Le Meridien Tahiti and Bora Bora

March 7, 2008 at 1:32 PM | by | Comments (0)

Hotelier. The word is so romantic, so eccentric, so...French. However, run-of-the-mill real world hoteliers don't always live up to the etymology.

Always looking to bring you the most pertinent information on the worldwide hotel scene, we figured when we found hoteliers that were worthy of the French pronunciation of the word, we would let them speak to you directly. Besides, before you dropped a bunch of cash to stay at someone's house, wouldn't you want to get to know the owner a bit? Exactly. We, always oh so full of ourselves, are calling this series Hoteliers That Matter and we are sitting down with these hoteliers and letting them tell you, straight from their mouths to web ears, what you need to know about their hotels.

Having to work for Le Meridien Hotels in French Polynesia is not a bad gig at all. Nicolas Orget (a real live Frenchman!) is the Director of Sales and Marketing for the two Le Meridien Hotels in Tahiti and Bora Bora. Granted, he's not a hotelier of his own brand of hotels but he does need to pitch these places as part of his job. And we imagine this is not a hard sell.

Nicolas: "Come to Tahiti!"

Us: "Um...Ok!"

But alas, we couldn't go to Tahiti to meet Nicolas. Instead we caught some afternoon snacks with him at the Westin LAX airport lounge, a sister brand in the Starwood family.

After the jump, Nicolas explains which Le Meridien in Tahiti is right for you.

Art Imitates Life At Le Meridien Tahiti

Le Méridien Tahiti is expanding the respite it offers art-conscious travelers. Last year, the hotel opened L'Atelier, an onsite gallery and workshop center featuring the teachings and creations of South Pacific artists.

Taking it one step further, guests no longer have to leave their rooms to unleash their inner Bob Ross. With the Tahitian sunset through the window, visitors can use the included easel, canvas, and pastels that come, just as reliably as the mini bar, with every room to try and recreate the island's beauty.

Winter rates at the hotel start at $152 per person per night in a lagoon room which includes breakfast. The three-hour art workshops start at $120. And if you plan on staying over Christmas morning, the resort is hosting a first-ever Artistic Holiday Scavenger Hunt with the chance to win a free art lesson from L’Atelier. Good luck.
