The saying goes, "What's old is new again" but at the iconic Sportsmen's Lodge Hotel in LA's San Fernando Valley, the old has gone away for good.
The hotel is just finishing up a $4 million renovation that will bring the 190 guestrooms as well as the lobby and the pool area into the 21st century. We're talking big comfy beds, great lighting, bold colors, flat-screen TVs, poolside cabanas and best of all, free WiFi.
"We wanted to celebrate the past but make it more contemporary, more fun and more sophisticated as well," said Larry Broughton, founder and CEO of broughtonHOTELS. (broughtonHOTELS took over as operator of the hotel from Joie de Vivre and is also overseeing the hotel's renovation.)
Really, Annalynne McCord and Kellan Lutz? You think people care about your on-off relationship that much that you have to go to a budget motel in the Valley to have a secret rendezvous?
The duo who reportedly broke up two weeks ago decided they had to see each other again and the only place good enough was apparently the Carlton Motor Lodge in Studio City. While we gave Carey Mulligan respect for her recent budget stay in Hollywood, we are calling bullsh*t on this incident, which also just happened to be captured by the paparazzi.
Because if you really wanted to have a secret sex session you would have done it at one of the discreet luxury hotels in Hollywood and Beverly Hills to facilitate a private, secure entrance for one another like L'Ermitage which has sheltered many of Angelina Jolie's lovers or even the fiercely private Chateau Marmont. (Just don't eat out in the courtyard where National Enquirer gnomes live.) That way you wouldn't need to don a nasty wig and gross glasses. Sigh. Amateurs.
The Sportsmen's Lodge in Studio City isn't just a Los Angeles hotel landmark, it also shares its name with the next-door restaurant and events center. Unfortunately for the Lodge, the events center recently closed, which led to rumors that the hotel was closed also.
Well, we're here to dispel that notion, especially since the Sportsmen's Lodge has recently undergone a renovation thanks to the new ownership of the Joie De Vivre Hotels Group. That's a good thing considering the hotel was starting to show its age. It was first opened 47 years ago and used to play host to the likes of Clark Gable when it used to be a fishing lodge, and Robert Kennedy stayed there the night before his assassination.
