Built in 1953 and considered one of the only two "Art Hotels" in the area, the Ritz Carlton South Beach is in the midst of completely renovating its original Morris Lapidus-designed landmark in the city’s historic Art Deco district. Here are a few pics of what's in store:
There are some more changes happening in South Beach as the city gets closer to welcoming guests for the 2007/2008 season.
In its place is the Vincci hotel chain which kinda sucks for anyone who bought condo-hotel units there. As blogger Kevin Tomlinson says:
If I were a owner of a unit, I would be pretty annoyed. That is one of the risks of buying a condo-hotel unit. It would be like the equivalent of buying a unit at The Ritz Carlton and ending up with a Super 8 operator, or worse yet, a Nicky O!
Indeed, the hotel's website has posted a letter about the change which went into effect Sept. 13th. The Regent will still open their Bal Harbour location in late December/early January. We just hope Vincci will continue the hotel's luxury car-sitting services.
Meanwhile, the blog also reports that Hilton Hotels will take over the Bentley Hotel and that the Gansevoort Hotel-Paradiso Miami will open in November which would be cool but we think its more like January/February 2008.
