Charles and Camilla's Eco Egypt Trip
Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla Parker Bowles have headed to Egypt and out of all the finest hotels they chose an ecolodge, the Adrere Amellal on the edge of the Sahara.
But despite the fact that the suites are built of mud and salt, and the hotel only serves organic food grown in the garden, this is a luxury, all-inclusive spot.
The furnishing in the mud huts are of the "highest quality" and that includes the oil lamps and candles which are used instead of electricity. (Ladies, there are definitely no hairdryers in these rooms.)
There's also no roomkeys, no front desk, no bathrobes, and no wifi. It's located hours away from anything you would want to see in Egypt. But at least you can get a hot shower when you arrive.
The unique thing is that you shed all western hectic, accept the fine sand which is everywhere, be content with approximations of time to within 15 minutes and can devour the desert not from an air-conditioned western bubble but from a place which shares the serenity and scarceness of the land although providing all civilised western comfort.
Er...sounds great. We'll meet up with you at The Oberoi Mena House hotel for our un-eco-friendly trip to Egypt with bonus views of the Pyramids.
