NYT Gets Wet in Saratoga Springs

August 10, 2009 at 9:33 AM | by KatieK | 0 Comments

Every hotel spa we cover seems just a bit more luxurious than the last. Sometimes it’s refreshing to take a step back and swoon over America’s original spas — you know, hot mineral springs. The NYT did just that recently, sending writer Daniel Wakin and his family to Saratoga Springs Spa and Park, “once-mighty mineral baths” less than three hours from Manhattan, to investigate the ways they could “sample the waters.”

The article is worth a read if you’d like Wakin’s take on the area’s springs, but we were of course more interested in his hotel picks for the area. Are you in the market for a new moose head? Or perhaps you collect hotel paraphernalia? Perhaps you have a fetish for mountain theme wall decor?

Saratoga Hotel is revamping, and going from racetrack, hunting lodge to-- luxury racetrack hunting lodge?... Spring cleaning means out with the taxidermic bear, and in with new decor, and a nice sounding restaurant, Chez Sophie.

So what is to become of the old decor?

AM Racing City Rotary President Bruce Morrow said, "It's a once in a lifetime type of proposition. We are just so grateful they donated the items to us so we can auction them off to give to local non for profits."

Off season packages? You bet.  Rooms start at $99, perfect budget for bidding on the moose head.
