Get Prepared for Next Year's Carnival: Book into the Cocoon

The hangovers of Brazilian Carnival are still lingering after this past long weekend saw partygoers dancing and celebrating their way through South America's most exciting days--and if you think you want to be there next year, we want to recommend the Cocoon Hotel in Salvador, Bahia state.

The Cocoon already considers itself famous as "the first spaceship hotel" in the world. It's definitely got a wacky sci-fi look about it, and we think that puts it in a bit of a partying mode, which is just what you're looking for during Carnival.

There are just 27 rooms a the Cocoon, so get in early if you want a room for next February. And remember that it's quirky, not too expensive (rooms are usually less than $200 a night), and is frequented by a young and equally quirky crowd--put it this way, don't expect peace and quiet at Carnival time. It's one of those hotels where it's more than just somewhere to stay, the hotel is part of the sightseeing itself.

Cocoon Hotel in Salvador da Bahia claims to be the first ever "spaceship hotel", and we believe 'em.

We wish we were heading to Bahia right now.

Cling on to Summer: Go Brazilian

As summer closes in on us we have two ways of dealing with it: buck up, put on some fall fashion-plaids and welcome it or deny it and head somewhere to extend it. Extending it sounds pretty good to us so heading to Brazil is the easy answer. Just entering spring, the season doesn't really matter because it will be hot and sunny no matter what time of year.

Travelbite pushes Salvador, the capital of Bahia Brazil and for good reason:

In Bahia's capital, Salvador, locals go to the seaside - which vary from crowded city beaches to more remote and tropical sandy coastlines - to relax, socialise, eat and drink, and surf and swim. One of the key features of Brazils beaches are the barracas - huts, that serve food and drinks day and night.

Chilling in a barracas hut with cocktails is definitely the way to have eternal summer. In the 24/7 party life of Brazil, you should probably get a hotel to lay your head for a few hours here and there and you can do that at the Vila Gale Mare, a Portuguese chain, in Salvador has internet in the rooms, several hotel restaurants and a pool bar, and is located in just off the city center, on the beach.

Even better, they're shaped like funky sombreros.
