The Conrad Maldives Has Its Own Submarine, Nemo

We've long documented hotel cars and boats but this might be the first time we've ever seen a hotel submarine.
The Conrad Maldives Rangali Island unveiled its three-person "Nemo" sub earlier this month. Nemo, which looks like a clown fish with its orange and white stripes, is driven by a trained pilot to take two passengers on a 30-minute ride to see the resort's coral reef.
Thanks to the three acrylic glass pods that stick out on top of Nemo, guests can get 360-degree views of the underwater world without getting wet. No need for a scuba suit here, Jim Carrey! And then when you're finished, you can continue the underwater experience at the hotel's underwater restaurant, Ithaa.
The price for one dive is $495 for two people or $280 for one person.

Finally, An Underwater Hotel Surfaces...Kind Of

Under Water Hotels are sort of like our favorite joke here at HotelChatter. They've been hyped up for years but when it comes to actually opening, well, let's just say there's never been a real opening date set for any of these projects. Same goes for Space Hotels.
But at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island they've put together a reasonable way to spend a night underwater---by turning their underwater restaurant, Ithaa, into a suite for two for an evening in honor of the restaurant's fifth anniversary. Guests who book the suite will get a private champagne dinner and breakfast in bed. Oh and the chance to wake up looking up (not down) at the fishes swimming all around.

Traveling 10,000 Miles for Barefoot Luxury: The Conrad Maldives
Carsten Schieck, the tall, tan, genial General Manager of The Conrad Maldives Rangali Island resort, breezed into Los Angeles last week on a tour of the U.S., and sat down to tell us why a visit to his resort is worth flying 10,000 miles (plus an extra island hop of 50 miles.) Turns out that even if you hate traveling long distances, once you get to the Maldives, the Conrad will do everything in their power to make you forget just how long and tiring that trip was.
But first, we had to ask--what is Conrad. This is actually one of Hilton’s ultra luxe-brands ("but still hip," says Carsten) with just a handful of properties around the world. This location was actually once the former Hilton Maldives but underwent a recent $35 million refurbishment to emerge as a brand-new, shiny and sparkling Conrad Hotel.

Hilton Maldives Offers Guests A Desert Island to Explore

Luxury hotels are getting more and more creative/insane with the hotel amenities that they can offer for their high-paying guests and the Hilton Maldives is no exception.
The hotel has picked up a nearby desert island (Huruelhi) and keeps it reserved for guests who want a "Robinson Crusoe" type of adventure for a day.
Never mind that the resort is already set on two bridge-linked islands. Or that the place has enough to keep you entertained with 10 restaurants and bars, an undersea restaurant, two spas, the infamous cheese "closet" with 130 cheeses and all sorts of water activities from snorkeling to deep-sea fishing.
Still, if you want more the hotel will send you out to the desert island, Huruelhi for some exploring and set up a picnic lunch/dinner for you. Aside from the "desert island" cool factor, you might find yourselves more entertained back at the resort. Just wait 45 minutes after eating all the cheese before you go swimming.
NOTE: The Hilton Maldives will be rebranded as a Conrad Resort this December.

Try 130 Cheeses at the Hilton Maldives

When we think of the Maldives, snorkelling, scuba diving and relaxing at the pool are the kinds of activities which spring to mind. But those heading to the Hilton Maldives Resort and Spa (to become the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island in December) should add another activity to the list: cheese-tasting.
