Although most folks think of the Four Seasons or the St. Regis when talking about the tony Punta Mita development north of Puerto Vallarta, there’s a hidden gem of a resort called Imanta just minutes up the coast. Concealed among jungly hillsides that cascade toward the Pacific, it also blends a rustic-chic aesthetic with all the comforts of a luxury resort.

Imanta is a private property accessed by a two-mile-long private driveway that snakes through 250 acres of mountainous jungle to an open-air reception area where guests are greeted personally and shown to their accommodations called casas.

Let's take a look inside:

Get Free Nights in Mexico's Riviera Nayarit

April 10, 2009 at 4:16 PM | by | Comments (0)

Freebies are excellent ways to lure tourists out of their staycation doldrums. Mexico's Riviera Nayarit is competing hard for your greenbacks by offering three free night deals in some of their luxury hotels lining the county's Pacific coast. Here are three we like:

1. The Four Seasons Punta Mita has a Sun-sational Third Night Free package available from now until December 21, 2009 with Sunday and Monday arrivals only.

2. Hotel des Artistes has a Simply Summer package, from April 25th through November 14th, 2009. Guest stay three nights in a deluxe oceanfront suite and get the fourth night free.

3. Marival Resort & Suites has a Free Kids package, from May 1st through June 30th, 2009 where kids under 12 stay for free. The property boasts four family-friendly swimming pools, an adult-friendly swim-up bar, Kid's Club, four night-lit tennis courts, a gym and water sports center.

Now we just need a BOGO airfare deal and we'll be ordering margaritas faster than you can yell "tequila!" in your best Pee Wee Herman voice.

Best Killer View: Casa Las Brisas

Thanks to Hotel Maven Tim Leffel a regular old photo of a hotel room's Killer View will never be the same. Tim managed to capture his room view at the Casa Las Brisas on video and send it back to us.

It was a close call between this video and the other one he sent from the Villa Premiere in Puerto Vallarta. Of course, we don't expect everyone to upload a video for Killer View these days. For instance, this view from the St. Regis Bora Bora also made us hot.

LIVE: Room with a Killer View

We are suckers for a room with a killer view.  We find that we are even more likely to forgive some minor hotel inconveniences if we can stare out the window at something pretty--yeah we are that shallow. Let's help out our fellow hotel mavens by uploading rooms with killer views to the HotelChatter/Flickr photo pool, or by sending the photo along to us. This week's special edition of Killer View: LIVE has been brought to you by Hotel Maven Tim Leffel who's checking out the hotel scene in Mexico.

Casa Las Brisas, in the Punta de Mita area of Mexico, north of Puerto Vallarta, is 7-room boutique hotel on the beach, and a place where your cares quickly melt away. It happens to have quite the killer view, so here's a zen-like movie of the view from the penthouse suite over the pool. Just waves crashing on the shore in the early morning light. The sunset from here isn't too shabby either.

This small hotel, built and run by a hotel architect who knew what he was doing, prices rooms on an all-inclusive plan, so guests can simply chuck their valuables in the room safe and then just ask for whatever they want during the stay. In fact, whenever you want something, a person always seems to materialize at your side to fetch it. Cocktails are poured with premium liquor, the rotating menu is top-notch, and baskets of sunscreen are even placed at the feet of the cushioned lounge chairs facing the ocean.

All the rooms are furnished a bit differently, with plenty of artwork and personal touches, but all have a balcony with a view and a long list of amenities. In a few rooms it's possible to look out at the water from the open shower--without being seen.

The dramtic beach here is close to deserted most of the time and during the right time of year it's possible to see whales and dolphins cruising by. Casa Las Brisas is only a few minutes away from the sprawling Four Seasons Punta Mita, but it's world's away in terms of attitude and price. For boutique hotel lovers who appreciate meeting other guests and having a strong sense of place, this is an excellent choice near Puerto Vallarta.
