Provincetown's Gay-Friendly Oxford Guesthouse Closes

Yesterday, we got word from a tipster that Provincetown's Oxford Guesthouse has shut down. As it turns out, the popular gay-friendly inn recently closed on September 12.

The English country-style inn, which operated for 12 years, was sold and we suspect it has been converted into a private residence.

If you want to stay in a similar-type place in Provincetown, the former Oxford Guesthouse owners recommend spending the night at the nearby White Porch Inn, a nine-room bed and breakfast that offers perks like views overlooking Providence harbor from a number of the rooms, a 24-hour coffee bar and free WiFi. Rooms at White Porch start at $125.

Pink Choice's Favorite Pink Hotels

Pink Choice, the travel review site for gays and lesbians, has announced their 2006 Pink Choice Awards. The lodging winners were listed on the site from its launch back in August through December 31st, 2006 so there wasn't much time to make an impression but here's who did. If you like Provincetown, then you're in luck as most of the award winners are there:

· Carpe Diem - Provincetown
· Christopher's by the Bay - Provincetown
· Inn at Cook Street - Provincetown
· New Zealand House - Fort Lauderdale
· The Oxford Guesthouse - Provincetown
· White Wind Inn - Provincetown

These picks made the list because of their "exceptionally high standards of accommodation, amenities and service they provide in the opinion of gay and lesbian travelers." A bunch more places in P-town were recommended by Pink Choice as were a few more places in Ft. Lauderdale.

Never been to P-town? Our baby bro Jaunted knows much about Provincetown as he took a field trip there over the summer during peak tourism season.
