Cubicle Dreamin': My Macabre Dream
Cubicle Dreamin' is a feature in which we ask the hotel mavens to take some time out of their busy work day, surf the Internet, and tell us what hotel they wish they could beam themselves to right that very second--all on the slave driving companies dime, of course. Oh, like these people aren't surfing aimlessly anyway--at least now their purposeless clicking will be cobbled together into useful hotel stories--we hope. Have a destination hotel you are just dying to leave your cube for? Send the story our way.
In this episode, Hotel Maven NatalieWW fantasizes about visiting Pompeii. Enjoy.

Call me warped, but one of the items on my life-list is to see the ruins at Pompeii. I don't know what it is about the plaster casts of fallen Romans and animals twisted in anguish, but it calls to me. (Seems I'm not alone; Smithsonian magazine just named Pompeii as #2 of "28 Places To See Before You Die" in its January issue. But I digress...).
And today I'm dreaming about the perfect place to stay while visiting Pompeii, the Hotel Amleto. Located in the heart of the city's historical center and a mere two minute walk to the ruins, the Amleto is also the only 4-star property in the city. It offers guests the simple luxury of immaculate, well-equipped rooms in one of Europe's most fascinating cities.
I'm also attracted by the sweet little courtyard at the rear of the hotel and the rooftop terrace for getting in a little sun worship between gawking at ruins. Guests can enjoy free Internet service and homemade limoncello in the lobby, and a complimentary daily breakfast of fresh fruit, yogurt and warm croissants -- perfetto!
