The New York Times has a round-up of weekend getaways today, but their recommendation for where to stay when hiking in the Catskills caught our attention. The Full Moon Resort, in Phoenica, N.Y., offers the classic crunchy Upstate New York experience year-round.

The Resort's grounds are home to seven lodges in addition to a hotel.The lodging options include a cedar-shake lodge as well as lodge that dates from 1890; many of them have views of the Catskills. Rooms are simple, but they seem to have kept the lace trim to a minimum.

There's plenty of live music events in the summer, but if you want to do the Catskills right, you must go tubing. Floating down the icy-cold Esopus Creek on big rubber donut--what's not to like?
