'That 70's Show' at Viking Resort

Sometimes the reviews of a hotel on TripAdvisor are so astonishingly bad that you think the owner must be pining for the good old days, when all disgruntled guests could do was write a letter and complain to their friends and relatives.
Witness the following three separate reviews for the Viking Resort, a stuck-in-time downhill slider hanging on due to a prime location facing Keuka Lake in upstate New York.
· "Our stay at the Viking lasted 15 minutes. The room actually looked like a 1970's mobile home with rusty (metal) cabinets, frayed carpet, and exterior windows and doors that did not shut completely. The room was dirty, crumbs on the tables, greasy stains on the walls, mold in the bathroom."
· "My husband got the key and we proceeded to the room. OH MY GOD!!! Can you say "smelly, old, dirty, and utterly disgraceful?" We immediately went back to the front desk and demanded our money back. The manager gave us a real hard time but after much haggling back and forth and threatening to turn him into the health department, he finally gave in and threw the money in our faces."
· "There is no air conditioning and the rooms need A LOT of upgrades to have a similar quality to a Holiday Inn. There is no way to call out from your rooms, hook up to the internet, or cell phone coverage (Verizon is the only one available). The pay phone uses credit cards instead of coins, be prepared."
You have to give the place points for honesty though. The pictures on the web site all look like they were taken 30+ years ago and here's the description of their $70 rooms: "Motel rooms are very small, only 12'x16' with one double bed and a shower." If you want something bigger, that will be $100 and up. We'd say it's a plus that they allow pets, but considering the maintenance and refurbishment schedule, we'd worry about finding hair from Fido in the room, circa 1976.
