Paso Robles Travel Guide
It's nearly harvest time for California growers and in Paso Robles, a small town between San Francisco and Los Angeles, that means special tastings, events, and hotel packages to highlight the season.
This region has over 200 wineries growing 40 grape varietals from Petite Sirah to Rousanne, so you'll need a home base while you explore the terrain. We've found a few deals to do so, from boutique luxury to family-friendly properties.
The Adelaide Inn is a 108-room family-run hotel set on lushly grounds. Their Wine Package Special for Two includes an Executive King Room, complimentary bottle of Eberle wine, free wine tasting coupons, wine glasses, and sample chocolates. Rates are $116 per night and include free WiFi and Continental breakfast.
With over 200 wineries, Paso Robles is quickly becoming one of the country’s most important wine regions. Until now, though, the lodging options in the area have either been ultra-luxe or bargain basement. Located right off the historic town square of Paso Robles itself, the Hotel Cheval is a moderately priced new option for a weekend of Central Coast carousing and quaffing.
The hotel has only 16 rooms, arranged around a courtyard with an outdoor wood-burning fireplace. There is also a Library where you can unwind from a tough day of drinking, as well as a Parisian-style zinc-topped bar shaped like, what else, a horseshoe.

When most people imagine California's wine country, they think Napa and Sonoma. But just three hours south of San Francisco and less than four hours north of Los Angeles in an area called Paso Robles, we've discovered there's competitive wine, Justin Wines, to taste, and a ridiculously charming getaway, The JUST Inn. If you can slip away for a few nights, JUST Inn is spectacular during the low season when you might have the whole place to yourself. Do note: cell phones get no service, but if you must, you can enjoy free WiFi. (C'mon we're not completely technologically suicidal here.)
Of the other 100+ wineries around Paso (that's what locals call it) like Adelaida Cellars, Chateau De Deighton and Midlife Crisis Winery, Justin is viewed as one of the more posh and luxe.
Just in case you were further curious about our stay at the JUST Inn in Paso Robles, Calif., we thought you might appreciate a He Said/She Said on what to expect whether you're a man or a woman, and staying two nights in this quaint yet fancypants escape. So here is more or less what went down.
