The Only Thing Wrong With The Lego Camp at Atlantis is That We Can't Participate

O.M.G. Remember when we got all excited about the prospect of a Lego Hotel?
Yeah, well, just like personalized jet-packs for space travel, that hasn't happened. But there is another piece of Lego hotel news that's pretty awesome, even if it's taking place at the mega-zoo that is Atlantis in the Bahamas. It's Lego Fantasy Camp. Yes! Lego Camp.
You can only sign up if you're aged 6–12 but we're still trying to brainstorm a way around that one, so let's look at what's involved in the meantime. The five-day Lego workshops will take place in the new kids club, Atlantis Kids Adventures, in three separate sessions in July: 12–16; 19–23; and 26–30.

The Killer View at the One & Only Ocean Club

We don't know about you but we feel like it's been a mighty long week. We're sick of stomping on dirty snow in New York, and now it's melting and dripping off buildings and trees onto our heads. Gross. That's why we're finding our end-of-week solace in this snapshot of the Killer View from the One & Only Ocean Club in the Bahamas.
We dropped by this super-posh property last summer—we were too poor to stay over, but we did grab a mojito at the Pool Terrace Cafe. (Ordering rum punch in such classy surroundings just seemed... well, wrong.) Our tip to anyone doing likewise, however, is this: When you ask the front desk staff where the bar is and they direct you to the pool terrace, politely thank them and then say, "No, we mean the Dune Bar. This is where the money shot, the Killer View, is.

Cozy Up to a Travel Agent for a Better Bahamas Hotel Deal

If you're feeling the pinch but are pining for a tropical Bahamas getaway, then you can probably still enjoy a Bahamas lifestyle at a cheaper resort like the Comfort Suites Paradise Island. With fancier places closing down, it might even be a smart move that ensures your hotel is still running when you arrive.
A deal for the Comfort Suites Paradise Island crossed our desk this week that got us pretty excited: $99 a night for a double, including breakfast but there's one biggish catch. You must either be a travel agent, be related to one, or be really good friends with one. If you are, you're in luck and can score this rate; and while you stay at Comfort Suites you get the full use of the pools, beaches and pretty much everything except the rooms at the posh Atlantis Paradise Island next door. Pay less, enjoy more.
If you don't have a travel agent pal, then it's still worth checking for reasonable rates. For "regular" travelers we found a best available rate of $176 a night in August, rising to $283 in December, with some discounts for longer stays. Although no use of the Atlantis facilities are allowed for regular folk. For that you have to cough up the Atlantis' average $370 a night room rate.
And just in case you forget to tip your housekeeper, the Comfort Suites automatically charges a $4.50 houskeeping gratuity per person per night.

Inside The Cove at the Atlantis Resort
On our way back from Eleuthera, we decided to spend the night in Nassau. Afterall, who knows when we will ever get back to the Bahamas? And if we do get back there, we already know where we are going.
So we shacked up at The Cove on our own dime and not part of the scheduled press trip. We've been dying to check out The Cove since it opened last year--it must have been the initial celebrity draw that got us hooked. And we were expected to love the place, especially after a few days of idle island living on Eleuthera.
But the thing is, we really missed our stripped-down, laid back, easy come, easy go days on Eleuthera. And the Atlantis Resort is anything but laid back.
