Paarl Travel Guide
Cubicle Dreamin' is a feature in which we ask the hotel mavens to take some time out of their busy work day, surf the Internet, and tell us what hotel they wish they could beam themselves to right that very second--all on the slave driving companies dime, of course. Oh, like these people aren't surfing aimlessly anyway--at least now their purposeless clicking will be cobbled together into useful hotel stories--we hope. Have a destination hotel you are just dying to leave your cube for? Send the story our way.
Our friend Richard Chanter, the proprietor behind the Chanters Lodge in Zambia emailed us his desired "cubicle dreaming" getaway.
I've been laid up for the past few weeks with a tropical ulcer on the sole of my foot! Imagine the pain and immobility this has produced! It's given me a lot of time for cubicle dreamin' though my cubicle's my room at home and not the Lodge.
We had an enquiry from the proprietors of Aster Palms and suddenly from my cubicle I knew where I wanted to be!
He then wrote on his blog some more details about this South African getaway. Certain highlights are:
· Its location along the Berg River Valley bordered by the Drakenstein mountains
· Its small size. There are four double bedrooms with satellite TV and DVD players.
· Free internet access
· A library well-stocked with over 500 books in English and Afrikaans
· Front and rear gardens
· A telescope for star-gazing
· A solar-heated pool.
Pretty much everything you could want from a quiet South African getaway and for cheap too. TripAdvisor lists the average rates at $45 a night.
