You'd never think it but the the Hilton Omaha. is going to be bumpin' this weekend, thanks to Buffettchella aka the annual shareholders conference for Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc.

Fox Business's Liz Claman (@LizClaman) dished out her tips on what to do in Omaha for our brother site, Jaunted and in it she gave a shout-out to the Omaha Hilton for their service. She said:

We stay and broadcast from Hilton It is right across from the (Qwest) convention center where the meetings are taking place and centrally located downtown near all of my favorite restaurants. It is actually my favorite hotel of any place I have ever stayed. Who would have known? Once a year shareholders, business leaders, and the media descend upon this tiny city once and they handle it incredibly well.

Liz doesn't even leave the hotel for a java jolt as the hotel brews Starbucks coffee in the lobby. (We just hope the hotel waives their WiFi charge for her.)

Element to Debut in Omaha on November 4

While we're a little bit bummed that the Element Times Square won't be opening until December, we've got something that will hold us over in the meantime--Element Omaha (sing it now, "Somewhere in middle America, get right to the heart of matters...") which will open on November 4.

Built green from the ground up, the property will pursue LEED certification and offer sustainable practices and eco chic amenities. Each of Element’s 132 guest rooms has a fully-equipped kitchenette and guests will have access to the complimentary healthy Rise breakfast each morning, Motion, the 24-hour state-of-the-art fitness center and complimentary bikes to borrow.

Element Omaha, in the city's Midtown district, will actually be the first Element hotel in the Midwest and if you're in the area, we highly recommend you try it out. We spent four days at the Element Las Vegas last year and it still ranks as one of our top hotel stays.

You Tell Us: Where Was Screech Mugged?

August 10, 2006 at 2:24 PM | by | Comments (0)

If you hadn't heard, Dustin Diamond aka Screech from "Saved by the Bell" was mugged the other day in a west Omaha hotel.

Diamond said the woman grabbed some video games, and he held her against the hotel room door until police arrived.

Deeming it a case of "He Said, She Said", Omaha police no charges have been filed. Blah, blah, blah. What we really care about is where do former child stars with trouble making their mortgage payments stay when they are on the road touring with an 18-and-older standup comedy show?

Even though Dustin detailed the incident on a Tampa radio show, he didn't say where he was staying. Nor did any other news reports we came across. (They would only say a hotel in west Omaha.)

Perhaps Dustin was staying in a low-budget motel? When we looked at TripAdvisor for some west Omaha hotels, all we found were a Holiday Inn, a Hilton Garden Inn, a Comfort Suites, a Clarion and a couple of Super 8s.

So if you are a Dustin Diamond fan and have been following him on his "tour", let us know where he stayed. Otherwise, comment below on which type of motel you think would Screech prefer.

Hotel Art Bandit

March 29, 2006 at 4:35 PM | by | Comments (0)

The Onion "reports" that a petty art thief, whose calling card identifies him as "the bland fox", struck at an Omaha Radisson Inn where he made off with a painting of a sailboat valued around $35.

While this story has yet to receive international news attention, we feel that it is only a matter of time before the contraband winds up at a Norway Hotel.
