People in Glass Houses
Amenity lists, as we all know, can get long and overwhelming at times. They prompt us to book particular hotels and in some cases to run the other way. The New York Times recently reviewed Mas les Cols in Olot, Spain; a hotel which boasts next to nothing on the ol' A-list.
The hotel plays with the "simplicity" motto it seems because not only are there no televisions, radios, or other gadgetry in the rooms, there is barely any décor...which is part of the décor. The five-room hotel is a house of glass walls:
The room's doors, walls and floors are glass; the ceiling is metal and glass. The reflections are infinite
The hotel is renowned for its design and its top-notch restaurant--so much so that the website doesn't even mention the hotel! But there is an eeriness that creeps out of even the write-up on this place:
When guests head to dinner, the pod gets made up into a comfy black-sheeted bed, and remote-controlled blackout shades can be activated to keep out the irritating starlight.
Depending on how much you love Spanish food and glass design, we're not sure about staying in a pod with blackout shades. Even if we were, we're not above admitting we'd at least need a pod-TV.
