Did you know that Canada's tallest hotel tower is actually the Hilton Hotel and Suites Niagara Falls/Fallsview? We did not know this until we got word that the hotel has completed a pair of Presidential Suites atop the hotel tower's 50th floor, giving guests views of both the American and the Canadian side of the falls. (So both President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Stephen Harper can stay in Presidential digs at the same time.)

Designed to magnify the beauty of Niagara Falls, the brand new Presidential Suites feature floor-to-ceiling windows, accompanied by remote controlled blinds and shades, and a chic atmosphere created by the décor in shades of white, silver and black. Upon entering the suite, guests will find themselves in a small foyer that opens up to 1,500 square feet of pure luxury. On the one side of the foyer is an intimate sitting room; complete with a full bathroom and access to a balcony, perched 50 stories above the city!

The One Where We Revisit the View from the Marriott Niagara Falls

We are suckers for a room with a killer view.  We find that we are even more likely to forgive some minor hotel inconveniences if we can stare out the window at something pretty--yeah we are that shallow. Let's help out our fellow hotel mavens by uploading rooms with killer views to the HotelChatter/Flickr photo pool, or by sending the photo along to us. We will feature our favorites in this space from time to time. Remember to tell us the name of the hotel and the room number of the hot view.

Way back in 2006, in the early days of calling out hotel website photos for being a little too embellished, we made fun of the Marriott Niagara Falls room photos because they so clearly were photoshopped. C'mon, is there a pot of gold at the end of this rainbow too?

We were able to determine that hotel was not "dangerously" close to Niagara Falls but that it was definitely the closest hotel yet and provided you get the right room category, you could have a pretty killer view of the falls.

Photographic proof of that comes from Mr.Kathika, who dropped this shot of Room 1422 into the HotelChatter Flickr Pool. There's no rainbow over the falls and you can't jump out the window in barrel but that view of Niagara is amazing. Room rates start at $119 CAD for a queen room with views of Niagara and a fireplace.

Is the Doubletree the 'Greatest Hotel' in Niagara Falls?

HotelChatter Maven Melena 10 seems to think so. She sends in her review of the Doubletree Hotel Niagara Falls.

Being a local in Niagara, we try out a new hotel each year on our anniversary. This newer hotel is the best stay we have had in Niagara.

The Doubletree experience was amazing from the start; they give you warm cookies at check-in. The room was spacious, clean and had the best beds I have ever slept on. The hotel has an amazing Aveda spa, and an excellent restaurant - my husband had the lamb, I had the salmon - excellent. There is a really neat little art gallery and a Starbucks. Take it from a local, this is the best option in Niagara.

Ah...those famous Doubletree cookies will win anyone over but we were surprised to hear about an Aveda spa inside a Doubletree. As for the restaurant, that would be the casual dining spot Buchanans. But the hotel also has a little cafe with a funny name--The Moose & Squirrel Coffee & Pub. How very...Canadian?

Some Days (Inns) Are Diamonds, Some Are Stones

[ED. Note: One of our tipsters, Lindsay, decided to take a chance on the Days Inn Niagara Falls,, booking the room through Travelocity. Figuring it was a national chain, she thought her stay should be trouble-free. She was wrong. Here's her side of the story. Enjoy.]

First of all we are told this is a large king room with a desk and fridge. Well it was a king bed but the bedroom was more like a closet and the bathroom was so small the sink had to be in the bedroom. We are also told they have full cable television and high speed internet, we got about 10 channels, most of which were out by the time we wanted to watch tv (1 am or so) and the internet was wireless with a much slower than dial-up random wireless unsecured connection.

When we arrived we noticed a really loud dripping (heard over the tv and talking) but assumed it would stop when the rain did. Well around 2am when I wanted to go to sleep it was still dripping, tried to tough it out, but it was seriously so loud and I had the tv cranked. That is not okay, for a person not to be able to sleep in a hotel room, they have paid so much for. We contacted the front desk, who sent up security to confirm the drip and that it was coming from the floor above us. Thus, they could do nothing to fix it and had no empty rooms. They offered us $20 off our stay. Obviously we did not accept. We were told the manager would be in at 10am the next morning.

We got a kick out of perusing some of these pictures of the Niagara Falls Marriott which looks like someone at the place has been having a bit too much fun with photoshop.

When you head to the bookings page, you can select from a variety of room choices which all conveniently have thisclose views of the falls and a pretty little rainbow too.

We decided to put our Google Earth obsession to investigative use and check out how close the hotel is to the Falls.

Chief Glowing Feathers Hotel

The Seneca Niagara Casino and Hotel will be adding a new feature atop their new, 26-story hotel in Niagara Falls. From afar, possibly as far as Buffalo, the world will see a glowing feather, which is the traditional symbol of the Senica Nation of Indians.

This 50 foot tall high-def TV, which is shaped like a feather, will probably be the biggest feather in New York. Yeah, we are going to go ahead and crown this feather the largest in the Empire state.

In addition to feathers, the hotel and casino offers lots of slots, free drinks for gamblers, and free parking!

The hotel is slated to open late December, and will be the largest hotel in Western New York. Driving directions should be easy enough--get yourself to Buffalo and head toward the giant feather.

Don't Give up on Niagara

June 30, 2005 at 12:08 PM | by | Comments (0)

Yes, we now know there are some bad options in Niagara Falls (cough*Embassy Suites we are lookin' your way*cough), but don't cancel your wooden barrel rental just yet.

And why would you spend another hot muggy day by the pool, when you can head for Niagara Falls?

Guaranteed to make you cool again, the Falls are one of North America's greatest natural wonders.

And it seems to be the only thing Canada and America actually share, aside from hockey players and comedians.

Stay at the The Americana Resort, Spa and Water Park which is about 10 minutes from the falls and has a kickass indoor water park (you cannot escape water here.)

Obviously the resort is very family-oriented and offers Kiddie Suites with two queen beds and a cubby with bunk beds.  The suites go for about $130 to $245.

Family suites have separate bedrooms and cost from $205-$410.

If you want to stay even closer to the Falls, check into the Sheraton Fallsview where upper-floor suites feature wall-to-wall window that "seem to hover over the cascade."

Regular rooms go for $122 to $335 (depending on if you want a view or not) and family suites with two bedrooms and a view start at $235.

Niagara Hotel Kicks Family To The Curb At 1am, Allegedly

[Editor's Note: When are hotels gonna learn *not* to do this? Haven't they ever heard this story? One families series of unfortunate events explained below...]

Yesterday my family and I drove from Virginia to the Embassy Suites in Niagara Falls. This was their first trip to see the falls, and had beenexcited all day. We arrived late at night, but not only had a credit card confirmed reservation, we had prepaid for the room and had an Embassy Suites confirmation code.

The hotel refused to honor my prepaid reservation, having already sold my room to an earlier arrival. At first, I was told that there was no reservation in the system, even though I had a paper copy of the confirmation. Then I was told that the reservation was to start the following day, again even though I had a paper copy of the confirmation with Check-In and Check-Out dates on it. I was told by the Night Auditor to accept their booking me at another hotel or they would cancel my reservation for the remaining nights and I'd have to find my own hotel.

When I asked for a phone to call my travel company, the night auditor refused to provide one. When I insisted on getting what I had already paid for, she had security put me and my family out on the street (at 1 in the morning!) with the threat that they would call the police if we didn't leave.

Dance Dance Fallsview Hilton

[Editor's Note: Here is dzot's second Canadian hotel review from his recent trip. Enjoy]

It's very difficult for me to find fault with the Fallsview Hilton in Niagara Falls. Not because there is nothing to find fault with. There is, although it's small stuff. The real problem is that I am staying here for free, thanks to the Hilton Honors program. And not only that, they were good enough to give me a comp upgrade to a Jacuzzi suite. Anyone who carps about anything when handed two free nights in a Jacuzzi suite is either an ingrate or a critic. And I'm no ingrate.

I admit to being rather shocked at the comp upgrade. I didn't ask for it. In fact, having essentially reserved a free room, I assumed they would prioritize my room choice about like Steve Wynn would prioritize Corey Feldman's request for a comp suite. You'll get whatever we have available and you'll be grateful, you pathetic little man. Nope, just the opposite. The Fallsview Hilton gets a big fat wet kiss from me. Certainly makes me want to accumulate more Hilton Honors points.
