The Resort at Pelican Hill is a long ways from Italy in Newport Beach, Calif. but a visit here might have you believing you really did stay at an Italian seaside village on your vacation. And it will be all thanks to the resort's freshly-made pasta.
Pelican Hill has 128 ultra-luxe bungalows and villas where guests can retreat after a long, "hard" day of relaxing by the circular pool, hitting the Tom Fazio-designed golf course, playing tourist at nearby Balboa Island or even just meandering the expansive resort grounds.
At night, there's no need to venture outside into the "rough and tumble" streets of Newport because the resort has its own incredibly authentic Italian restaurant, Andrea Ristorante with tables on a terrace overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
Here Chef Marco Criscuolo has created a menu filled with northern Italy specialities using ingredients locally sourced from The Irvine Ranch (these folks also own the hotel.) And of course, pasta is featured heavily on the menu, so much so that the restaurant has its own temperature-controlled pasta room where over a dozen pastas are made everyday. Come si dice "Swoon" in Italiano?

Justin Bieber was busted being blunt (er smoking one?) with pics showing him holding a brown, non-cigar like cigarette. Thankfully, there were no photos of him passing the Dutchie.
We'd clutch our pearls in shock, but that would be silly. Seems like 18-year old Biebs has been trying to break his “good boy” image for a minute now, so what better way to do it than by hanging in a Newport Beach, California hotel and partying with his so-called BFF, rapper Lil Twist (who??).
Unfortunately, the young pop star must have been too blazed to figure out that one of his grimy pals was taking pics of the smokefest and they ultimately ended up on TMZ . Naturally, the story spread like an STD all over the Internet this past weekend.
We had the chance to check out the sparkling new Pure Blu Spa at the Newport Beach Marriott recently. We're grateful to spend any day at the spa, but it certainly doesn't stop us from looking at the experience with a critical eye (what? It's our job!).
After the jump, we break down the whole thing for you -- the good, the bad, and the fees you shouldn't bother with.
Normally, we don't like kicking off a Monday with grisly hotel crime but when it happens at a luxury hotel in Orange County, it's hard to ignore.
A woman's body was found packed in dry ice at the Fairmont Newport Beach Hotel Saturday and the details surrounding her death are mysterious to say the least.
The body of Monique Felicia Trepp was discovered in Room 966 at the Fairmont Hotel just before midnight Thursday, shortly after narcotics investigators say they arrested [Stephen David] Royds with a small amount of cocaine.
There's no cause of death yet but both Trepp and Royds had several prior drug-related arrest. Royds also told the O.C. Register that "Everything that happened was for religious reasons."
This is certainly not the kind of publicity the Fairmont wants after having just completed an extensive $32 million renovation. Maybe the Mondrian West Hollywood has some tips on how to cope.
