Pageant Queens and Tweens Will Descend Upon Atlantis

Yo, remember how we dubbed The Atlantis the Ultimate Tween Hotel? Okay, well: now they're sort of running a Tween Boot Camp. Seriously. Guard your hairspray and sequined ensembles; shiz is about to go down.

The Miss Teen Fantasy Camp is happening there this summer. Beware. Since the Miss Teen USA pageant finals are taking place at Atlantis on July 31, non-contestants ages 12-18 can come a week before the big competition to get their pageant on — they "will have the chance to learn pageant essentials such as styling, modeling and interviewing skills from current and past national titleholders" in a camp sort of setting.

Miss Teen Fantasy Camp at Atlantis, Paradise Island will take place July 27-August 1, 2009. During the six day/five night once-in-a-lifetime pageant experience, campers will meet with current and past MUO titleholders including the reigning Miss Teen USA, Stevi Perry; Miss USA 2008, Crystle Stewart; and Miss Teen USA 2007, Hilary Cruz for “PJ’s and Pillow Talk” and “Girl Talk” sessions.

Hot sale at the Atlantis that has nothing to do with Miley or the Jonas Brothers? Yes, please: starting this Saturday morning (May 16th) 7:00am, Atlantis resort in The Bahamas is offering what amounts to 65% off at The Reef Atlantis (the newest part of the property).

The "48-Hour Frenzy" starts in the morning and runs all weekend — until 7:00 am EST on the 18th — and during this time window, you can book 5 days and 4 nights for $399 per person. Yes. The Reef's digs are good for families: every room has a kitchen and a living room with sofa bed, and booking a room, of course, gets you access to the Aquaventure pool/waterslide facilities.

You can also opt for a dining plan while you're there, which is $99 a day for the "gourmet" plan or $69 per day for the "casual" plan.

To book, go here.

Atlantis Bahamas Positions Itself as the Ultimate Tween Hotel

You know those Disney commercials where the little kids are all, "I'm too excited to sleep!" because they have a trip to Disneyworld planned for the next morning? Yes, well: it seems that The Atlantis Bahamas is dead-set on making itself the go-to megaresort destination for tween-types the way Disneyworld is the ultimate playground for the slightly younger set. Perhaps we will soon be seeing commercials for Atlantis with Abercrombie-clad pre-teens exclaiming that an upcoming trip to Atlantis is making them too excited to sleep.

The evidence? You may recall the resort hosting the Jonas Brothers Weekend in Paradise, in addition to Fergie, Kelly Clarkson and Demi Lovato performances in recent months. And now: Miley Cyrus is coming.

Oh yes, folks: on May 16th, 2009, the Bahamas event of the century will be going down. As part of the Atlantis Live! concert series, the singer slash "actress" will be performing. And you can reserve a three-day, two-night Miley Cyrus Weekend in Paradise package for the ultimate experience, which includes accommodations, round-trip ground transfers on the island and tickets to the Miley concert, starting at $499 per person and and $209 per child 11 and under.

And, um, we will wait patiently for Zach Efron to launch a full-blown music career and to have his debut concert here.

Atlantis Resort Hosting Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader Calendar Shoot

Times must be desperate for the Atlantis Resort in Nassau. In the past, this mega-resort relied on its beachfront location in the Bahamas, family-friendly offerings, the mega-pool/mini-water park and its resident dolphins to attract vacationers. But lately the resort's been clinging to big name concerts like the Jonas Brothers and Kelly Clarkson to entice vacationers who aren't so sure about spending four days at a "nickel-and-dime-you" type of resort.

The latest "attraction" for Atlantis is now the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. The girls, who have their own reality show on The Country Music Television channel, are heading to the resort February 22 through March 1 to shoot their 2010 calendar. However, posing in bikinis on the beach is just one of the things the girls will be doing. They will also be hosting cheer clinics and beach yoga. If you want to be a Cowboy cheerleader or if you just fantasize about them, here's your chance to party with the girls as Atlantis has put together a special package to welcome them.

The James Bond Hotel in Nassau Is Now Under Renovation

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: Number One Bay St, Nassau, Bahamas, N 7148
January 27, 2009 at 12:34 PM | by Jenna | 0 Comments

The British Colonial Hilton in Nassau, where — fun fact! — James Bond movies Thunderball (1965) and Never Say Never Again (1983) were filmed, is in the process of undergoing a major makeover, ostensibly to spruce up in case a new Bond needs to roll through. The makeover kicked off at the end of '08 and is supposed to be finished by June of this year, and the hotel is dropping a hot $15 million on the upgrades.

All guestrooms will be given a contemporary new design with new bedding, HD LCD televisions, marble floors, "softer" furnishings and new lighting. Up in executive floor rooms and suites, bigger TV's than in the standard rooms (37" vs 32") and Nespresso coffee machines. 120 rooms will be all done by February, and the rest will be done by May.

The hotel is also adding a new executive lounge up on the top floor, offering killer views of Nassau harbor, computer work stations, WiFi, a self-service kitchenette with all day refreshments, big TV's. You can also expect a new bar, restaurant, and lounge concept, "due to debut before the summer."

Rates start around $179 for Deluxe Rooms.

The Atlantis Resort Lays Off 800 Workers

November 13, 2008 at 9:25 AM | by juliana | 0 Comments

As if the 400 layoffs at the Borgata last week and the woes affecting Las Vegas weren't enough bad news, The Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas has announced that it is laying off 800 employees. This is about a 10 percent cut at the resort, which is the island country's largest private employer. To blame? Low occupancy rates. (And probably, overpriced pina coladas.)

The United States typically accounts for more than 80 percent of tourist visits to the Bahamas. The decline began early this year and accelerated with the global economic crisis, said Georgina Delancy, research manager for the Bahamas Tourism Ministry. "When September hit, things went south," Delancy said.

800 is a lot of people out of work so if you feel like helping out the Bahamas, the resort is offering a some specials right now through Dec. 21st that include dolphin interaction. And omg, don't forget about The Jonas Brothers on Dec. 13th.

8.8.08 Deals :: Wyndham Nassau's $8 Wednesday Rate

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: West Bay Street Cable Beach, Nassau, Bahamas
July 22, 2008 at 3:32 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Much like last year when hotels took advantage of the 07/07/07 date to create themed packages, a few places are doing the same thing for 08/08/08.

One place is The Wyndham Nassau Resort and Crystal Palace Casino in the Bahamas which is offering a special $8 room rate on Wednesdays during the month of August.

Of course, you can't just decide to stay there on a Wednesday night in August for $8. This isn't a flophouse. Nope. Guests have to book a four-night minimum stay over a Wednesday. Rates start at $149 a night and the deal must be booked by July 31 for stays through August 30.

So it's a bit of a hoopla to get the $8 rate but still, we think it would be kinda cool to see that on your check-out bill.

Looking for another 8.8.08 themed packaged? Don't forget about the Marco Island Marriott!

Janet Jackson Gives the Cabanas at the Cove Atlantis Her 'Feedback'

Where: One Casino Drive, Nassau, Bahamas
May 20, 2008 at 11:30 AM | by juliana | 0 Comments

So you have decided to spend a few days at The Cove Atlantis in Nassau, Bahamas. We're guessing that money is no object for you then, since room rates here start at about $600 a night.

So why not keep the money flowing and thus drop $750 on one of the 20 cabanas that can be found both poolside and beachside at Cain, the adults-only pool and lounge experience within The Cove?

Celebs like Janet Jackson love these cabanas because they offer both beach and pool access, flat-screen TVs, Bose stereo sound systems, internet, full bathrooms and showers (no sand in your bathing suit here!), and a dedicated butler on call. We've seen the butler service on our trip to The Cove and literally, this person does not move from the cabana unless you say so.

And this apparently is the intention of the luxury cabanas. Says Jamie Mulholland, Cain's owner and the hotelier behind Surf Lodge:

Our luxury cabanas at the property are now being run like a mini-hotel business

To that end, Cain at The Cove has hired the former GM from Soho House, Guy Chetwynd, to be their own GM. Which is pretty crazy when you think about it. Too bad the $750 cabana rental fee doesn't allow us to sleep in it overnight.

Martha Stewart Visits the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas and Blogs About It!

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: One Casino Drive, Nassau, Bahamas
April 18, 2008 at 12:10 PM | by juliana | 2 Comments

Perhaps to recover from the loss of her beloved dog Paw Paw, Martha Stewart took her crew to the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas and she even blogged about it! (You know Martha, you could have just submitted a VIP Review to HotelChatter.)

Anyways, Martha's short on text but long on photos and photo captions. After looking at all the pics on her blog, we gathered this is what she did at the Atlantis resort: made a meal with executive sous chef at Jean George Vongerichten’s Café Martinique, tried on straw hats, checked out the garden at The Cove, observed architecture, bandaged her friend's hurt leg, went for a swim in rough seas, pitied her make-up assistant who got seasick, took a lot of pictures on the boat and fed some manta rays.

Go Martha! That's way more action than what we experienced at the resort last year.

As for accommodations, we're guessing Martha et. al. were put up in The Cove which is the newer and more pricier tower.

See what Martha's hotel digs probably looked liked here.

Would You Book This Crappy Deal from Atlantis?

File this one under Major Bad Rate. The Atlantis in the Bahamas is offering a "Paradise Getaway" of 4 days/3 nights from $439. This sounds amazing, right? Well here are some caveats:

· You must book by Feb. 29th, so you have one week left.
· Rate is per person, double-occupancy, based on Sun. or Mon. arrival. Got that?
· It's effective for travel 4/27/08-6/15/08, basically when it starts to get warm where you live.
· It's only for rooms in the Beach Tower Terrace which is the cheapest tower on the property.
· Don't forget to add up to $81 per person for mandatory taxes, mandatory housekeeping gratuities, and utility service fees. Yikes, good thing we told you about hidden fees.
· Weekend, holiday & peak period surcharges apply. So basically you have to ask for vacation days from work.
· Worst of all, we searched several dates online and not once did we see the $439 deal. Unless the deal is $439 per night which isn't really a deal here.

Room with a Killer View: The Cove Atlantis

Go To The Hotel's Web

December 6, 2007 at 9:30 AM | by juliana | 0 Comments

We are suckers for a room with a killer view.  We find that we are even more likely to forgive some minor hotel inconveniences if we can stare out the window at something pretty--yeah we are that shallow. Let's help out our fellow hotel mavens by uploading rooms with killer views to the HotelChatter/Flickr photo pool, or by sending the photo along to us. We will feature our favorites in this space from time to time. Remember to tell us the name of the hotel and the room number of the hot view.

You're in luck today! We bring you a live (with a tape delay of about three weeks) video of the view from 6834 at the The Cove Atlantis in the Bahamas. While we didn't love the hotel as much as we thought we would, this was a killer view indeed.
