Gaylord Hotels May Need To Invest in Plug Panels

We have a love-hate relationship with Twitter. The constant RT-ing, the abuse of hash tags, the "Top That!" and "First!" mentality of Twitterers and their cringe-inducing overshares have us threatening to quit Twitter on a daily basis. But today, we love Twitter again. That's because Twitterer DShelleny tweeted about his woes with too many gadgets and not enough outlets in his room at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville. He writes and TwitPics the frustration saying:
Hey @gaylordhotels..great hotel, here's a quick suggestion for you though... http://twitpic.com/m9u4o
That's his TwitPic above. Interestingly, @GaylordHotels (which has four Gaylord Hotels in the U.S.) has 475 followers but absolutely zero tweets. So we're guessing they didn't see DShelleny's @reply yet. Maybe now they have.

All Shook Up Over The Loews Vanderbilt's Over-The-Top Elvis Package

Don't call the Loews Vanderbilt Nashville the "Heartbreak Hotel." At least, don't plan on it unless you're booking their "Elvis in the Music City" package in celebration of The King himself. Elvis Presley's 75th birthday falls on January 8th of next year, and in honor of the music icon, the Nashville hotel has cobbled together a over-the-top package that's all glitz, glam, and calls to mind images of gold lame jumpsuits. Expect plenty of royal extravagances to be included, with a price to match: $3,975 for accommodations and a host of Elvis-themed activities.
We're still "All Shook Up" after hearing the price, but if you're an Elvis-lover, this hotel news couldn't have come at a better time, or with more Elvis-centric perks. They're slightly ridiculous as you might expect, but remember, this is the same hotel that hosted a $1,599/night "Hound of Music" package for aspiring canine singers. The Elvis offerings are tame and relatively normal in comparison.
Check out the full list of what's included after the jump.

Erin Andrews Stalker Asked For, and Received, a Guest Room Next to Hers

Last Friday, the creepy stalker who videotaped sexy ESPN reporter Erin Andrews through a peephole in her hotel room was found, arrested and charged with one count of interstate stalking using harassing and intimidating surveillance. But it turns out, Michael David Barrett wasn't just a clever predator on the hunt for his prey. Oh no, he had some help from the hotel.
A lawyer for ESPN blasted the management at Nashville Marriott at Vanderbilt University for failing to protect Andrews. The reason why? Computer records show that Barrett requested and was given a room next to Andrews and that their rooms were located in an alcove off the main hallways. It even shows up on the computer records as "GST RQST TO RM NXT TO [Andrews]." So much for guest safety and privacy, huh?

The Hotel Preston's Chicken Pot Pie Impresses Our Contest Winner

Last month we sent someone to Nashville, with a tan, as part of the cool Dream Amenity contest that we did in partnership with the Hotel Preston. The winner was one Mike Nielsen of Los Angeles whose dream amenity suggestion was an in-room acoustic guitar which will be implemented by the hotel in the coming months.
Even though he only won a two nights stay, Mike and his girlfriend decided to stay an extra two nights and the Hotel Preston gave him a discounted rate of $79 a night. Sweet! And as we expected, Mike has nothing but great things to say about Hotel Preston. Here's his review:

Today Is Your Last Chance To Win a Free Trip to Nashville

REMINDER: The contest ends today at 11:59pm EST. So SUBMIT YOUR GUESSES before it's too late!
Hotels have become quite clever these days with their in-room amenities. Like The Wit Hotel in Chicago with its cute wake-up calls or the complimentary laptops at The Lanesborough Hotel in London. We're also partial to the "donut soap" at The James and hotels that have Sony Readers or Kindles. And of course, sexy in-room amenities continue to be popular with hotel guests.
At The Hotel Preston in Nashville, amenities are a big part of the guest experience. A Spiritual Menu is offered to guests so they can choose how they want to say their nightly prayers. And just by pressing the hotel's "You want it, you got it" button on the room phone, a lava lamp, a gold fish, a good book, an art kit, a rubber duckie and even milk and cookies can be delivered to your room.
Now the hotel is seeking to add to their amenity list and they want YOU to come up with their next big amenity offering. What is your ultimate fantasy when it comes to hotel room amenities? For the first time ever, you can actually tell us what that fantasy is and by doing so, you'll be entered to win two free round trip tickets on Southwest to Nashville, plus two nights at The Hotel Preston!

Hotel Indigo to Rock with Rocco DeLuca in Music City

We’ve mentioned our aversion to lame music on hotel websites before, and unfortunately, we all know that lobby muzak is even more prevalent — and worse, since we can’t just hit mute like we can on our computers. That said, we’re intrigued by Hotel Indigo’s new “Artists in the Spotlight” music program, which brings live music to lobby bars.
The program includes music podcasts as well as a series of free “intimate hotel performances” by four emerging artists — one for each season — at boutiquey Hotel Indigos nationwide.

One Hotel That Gets the Christmas Decorations Just Right
While we were busy scouring Flickr for images of the worst Christmas decor in hotel lobbies to make our Five Ugliest Types of Hotel Lobby Christmas Decorations list, we came across a photo from a hotel that nailed the whole festive decorating thing and won our boozey little hearts.
Behold a grand, sparkling structure (and the beams of light that seem to shine upon it from the heavens): a Christmas tree made of wine bottles in the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville. Seriously, check it out.
The massive hotel is well-known for its Christmas festivities ("A Country Christmas") which, this year, includes a Radio City Rockettes show and a production of The Grinch on ice but we're pretty sure we'd skip all of that business to sit under this tree drinking straight through the twelve days of Christmas.

Not One, But Two Alofts Set to Open in Nashville

A forwarded email announcing Starwood’s plans for two new alofts in Nashville came prefaced with “Two? Really?” Which is a sentiment that’s right-on, especially since there’s already an aloft near Nashville in Franklin.
Alas, some questions are never meant to be answered, so all we have for you are the deets:
Outpost #1 will be aloft Nashville Downtown, located in the city’s historic district, near the Ryman Auditorium, the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Wildhorse Saloon and the Sommet Center, home of the NHL’s Nashville Predators. Outpost #2 will be aloft Nashville Airport, near the airport (obvs) and the Opry Mills Mall. The distance to travel between both Aloft is something like 10 minutes. Both hotels are expected to open in 2010.
And there you have it, folks. Nashville: the new aloft hot spot.

HotelChatter Flickr Pool:: Aloft Nashville is All Settled In
We got a morning surprise from Sevensummerz, who dropped this shot of Aloft Nashville into the HotelChatter Flickr pool.
If you look closely, you can just barely make out a bunch of furniture lined up by the front door. It almost looks like a scene from college move-in day -- and we feel like we're watching our newly-grown-up child moving into his first college dorm room... except it's Starwood's child, and they've had so many children they probably don't even get excited about them anymore.
For more photos of the completed Aloft Nashville, hop on over to the Flickr pool.
