Well, someone must have been paying attention when we sent out a plea yesterday to help the Ritz Carlton Marina Del Rey get their Rembrandt etching back.

The tiny portrait (it only measured 11" x 6"!) was finally recovered Monday evening—in the pastor's office of an Episcopal Church! What is it with scandalous pastors this week? Someone reportedly saw the missing artwork at the church and alerted the authorities. Though, to be fair, Father Mike Cooper hasn't been arrested, nor have detectives figured out exactly how the sketch traveled twenty-odd miles from the hotel into his office. Maybe it just needed some fresh air.

If any of you have special access to surveillance tapes at the Ritz Carlton Marina Del Rey, we would sure love to take a look (no, we're not snooping for candid Britney footage).

On Saturday, a $250,000 Rembrandt etching known as "The Judgment" disappeared from an exhibit in the hotel lobby. So how exactly does a 350-year-old lithograph just vanish? Well, that's kinda what police are trying to figure out. In the words of the LA County Sheriff's Department:

"When the curator that was attending to the art exhibit turned back to the exhibit, he noticed immediately that this individual drawing...was gone."

The LA hotel scene has definitely been quiet, almost sleepy, when compared to the nonstop action of NYC. So when we hear of a new hotel--even if it's just an extensive remodel or rebranding of an existing one--we get super excited.

The latest hotel to enter the market is the Jamaica Bay Inn in Marina del Rey. This is actually an old Best Western that's getting an extensive reno to transform itself into a "beachfront resort-like setting" and to transport guests to a faraway Caribbean resort.

Each guest room is a private, peaceful oasis with an understated yet elegant island-inspired décor. By making use of tropical textures like rattan, rich woods and leather, the design captures the essence of sophisticated island living.

Upgraded amenities include complimentary high-speed wireless Internet throughout the hotel, luxuriously comfortable bedding, environmentally friendly, luxury bath products, granite countertops and much more.

Many rooms feature their own private balcony, providing city views on one side and views of the beach, marina, pool and gardens on the other.

2009 is the year we all became reacquainted with a newly-reformed Britney Spears—a grown-up pop princess who grew back her long locks, kept crazy public outbursts to a minimum, and made sure the public knew she was no slacker in the parenting department. We're well-accustomed to seeing paparazzi pictures of Britney with sons Sean Preston and Jayden James, and this past weekend, the happy family threesome spent some quality time as well-monied families are wont to do: with an afternoon by the pool at The Ritz Carlton Marina del Rey.

'The Parent Trap' Remake Filmed at the Ritz-Carlton Marina Del Rey

As we were recuperating from illness in bed on Friday night, we found ourselves watching (and Tivo-ing for later) the good, the bad and the incredibly cheesy movies from the past. (Coyote Ugly anyone?) And amidst this sadfest, we found ourselves watching The Parent Trap remake with Lindsay Lohan and the late Natasha Richardson who passed away last week after a tragic fall on the ski slopes in Montreal of Mont Tremblant in Quebec. Gotta love the Encore channel's timeliness touch.

Aside from watching Richardson, we were also captivated by the young Lohan. It's hard to believe with all her recent tabloid drama these days, that she was actually once a precocious little red-headed child. They do grow up fast.

But what also got our hotel geek radar going was a hotel pool scene which we instantly recognized as The Ritz-Carlton Marina Del Rey.

LA's Only Ritz-Carlton Not Quite in LA

We spent the weekend at the Ritz-Carlton Marina del Rey and kind of loved it. But only kind of because, well, luxury on it's own isn't quite good enough. Check out our video tour of deluxe room 822 or keep reading for a full review.

This is the only Ritz in LA, but it's not exactly in LA. We had to get over to Hollywood for a meeting and it took over an hour--and that was on the weekend. However, if you don't need to go farther than LAX or Santa Monica or if you're just looking to hang out just at the hotel, it's great. It's real close to quirky Venice Beach and the Marina del Rey marina is right there if you're a boating junkie.

We spent the weekend in Room 822 at the Ritz Carlton Marina del Rey.

Ok, we really only spent part of the weekend in the room. The rest of the time we chilled at the spa and by the pool, because, yes, it is still warm enough in Southern California to lay out by the (outdoor) pool. Stay tuned for our full review of the hotel coming tomorrow.

Disclosure: Abigail stayed at the Ritz-Carlton Marina Del Rey at the behest of the Marina Del Rey Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Can you remember the last time you made a gingerbread house? From scratch? Us either. So we were surprised when we came across several gingerbread creations in the lobby of the Ritz Carlton Marina del Rey. What exactly are these gingerbread creations, you wonder? According to an article in the Los Angeles Loyolan, a college newspaper:

The Gingerbread Joust took place at the Ritz Carlton in Marina Del Rey on Tuesday, Nov. 11 and consisted of 10 teams competing to recreate or emulate aspects of famous Matisse artwork through the unconventional, edible medium of gingerbread. Aside from bragging rights, the various fraternities and sororities also had a grand prize to fuel their efforts: the use of the hotel's ballroom for their formal.

DeAnna Pappas Celebrates Betrothed Bliss at the Ritz-Carlton Marina del Rey

Bachelorette DeAnna Pappas has found her prince (for now anyways) and to officially show Jesse Csincsak off to the world, she hit up the new revamped pool lounge at the Ritz-Carlton Marina Del Rey on Sunday.

The pool area was transformed into a party for tan, muscled, well-dressed 20-somethings with the occasional tattoo and nipple ring. DeAnna and Jesse cuddled in the corner at a reserved table and even took a dip in the pool together. In case you missed it, don't fret. This type of party will be happening more often at the Ritz.

Snapshot :: The Marina Del Rey Marriott's Glow Bar

This is a snapshot of the Glow Bar at the Marina Del Rey Marriott in California which sits on the edge of the Marina Harbor, just south of Santa Monica.

The Marina tends to get overlooked by tourists as neighboring Santa Monica and Venice are the more popular spots to check-out. But the Marina is coming into its own lately and the Glow Bar at the Marriott provides a hip outdoor dining and lounge experience.

There's a full menu for dining or you can get bottle service in one of the private cabanas. And like most hip lounges, the place has a specialty cocktail menu that includes several fruit-inis like pear and pomegranate and a key lime pie drink made with Licor 43, Grey Goose Vanille, lime juice, and a splash of cream.

The picture found on the website look pretty glossy, especially for a Marriott, but we have confirmation that the place is pretty cool. We even hear that the folks at Electronic Arts across the way like to stop in here for drinks after work.

Did Travlota Have a Ritz Doorman Crush?

Way back when we found out that TheSuperficial scribe Brendon worked at the Ritz in Marina del Rey during a former life.

Nowadays, Brendon is the lead writer of his brand new site idontlikeyouinthatway (IDLYITW), which is not only a home run, but an anagram for wit idly.

In a recent email exchange, Brendon shared another great hotel story with us. This one involved an alleged incident involving John Travolta, the Marina del Rey Ritz, and a famous rabbit:

It was at the Ritz where Travolta always hit on me. But he was really in love with our doorman, a really pretty black guy named Herb. If Travolta was Bugs Bunny, every time he saw Herb, his eyes would have turned to hearts and his tongue would have hit the ground.

Oh, Brendon also worked at the Casa Del Mar, hopefully we will get some dirt on that place as well.  Stay tuned.

TheSuperficial, our favorite celebrity trash talker, let us in on a little secret today. No, not that these Britney Spears photos were taken at the Ritz-Carlton in Marina del Rey, we already knew that. Come on Superficial, that was what, last July? Though the one of her drinking and smoking at the same time was new to us.

The real bombshell was that TheSuperficial himself actually worked at the Ritz-Carlton in Marina Del Rey.

And, nobody asked, but these were taken at the Ritz-Carlton in Marina del Rey, where I used to work until they fired me for being too handsome. I'm not really sure why she would be hanging out there, but I don't have a good explanation for why she put on two hundred pounds either.

We are here for ya Supe.  We are always asking, "what hotel was that again?"
