Llano Travel Guide
Post Memorial Day in the USA means high gas prices and crowded campgrounds as droves of Americans take to our highways (thanks Ike!) and criss-cross this fine country of ours.
Where do you stop when you are in the middle of Texas and looking for that authentic Texas experience? We have no idea, but the Dabbs Railroad Hotel looks like a potential classic. This old train crew gathering spot was built in 1907 and has since been converted to a twelve-room soon to be cult hotel, in Llano, Texas. Llano is an old frontier town located sort of off Route 10 and approximately 70 miles from Austin.
The proprietor of the Dobbs is a chap named Gary, who from the sounds of the hotels guests is quite a character. Seems Gary is a "not-so-closet conspiracy theorist" who swears that certain rocks in Llano are actually solidified UFO fuel.
