La Fortuna Travel Guide
Arthur Frommer recently headed to Costa Rica in search of active volcanoes.
Did you know that Costa Rica is home to seven volcanoes? One named Arenal is constantly exploding, or at least producing ash and lava everyday.
But you can only stare at lava too long before you feel like you are sinking into the depths of hell.
So when you get sick of that you can head for the other "local geothermal feature" in Costa Rica: hot springs.
The Tabacon Resort is built around some hot springs and is complete with a tropical garden, elaborate streams, waterfalls and pools along with the normal swimming pools and swim-up bars.
The resort also has non-nature things to do like spending a day at the Iskandria spa and dining at the hotel's restaurants, Ave de Paraiso and Los Tucanes.
Rooms are fairly affordable with a standard room in high season (i.e. right now) going for $159.
If you want to just check out the thermal pools, then it's $29 but $19 after 7 p.m.
