We stayed at the Radisson in Koldingfjord during a trip to Legoland Denmark last May.  The hotel is a transformed sanatorium in a forest with the most spectacular views of the adjacent fjord.

We were awestruck when we drove up and toured the main building.  To get to our room we walked through the property and took a glass elevator ride up the side of a rock wall. The kids loved it.

After such an extravagant exterior we were surprised that the furniture in the room reminded of us of our college dorms. The staff was great and we loved Legoland which was a pleasant 45 minute drive away.

Above the center of Kolding is the castle of Koldinghus where a Danish King built a fortress in 1268 to guard the border between the Kingdom of Denmark and the Duchy of Schleswig.

Less than an hour from Kolding is Ribe, the oldest town in Denmark. Ribe was founded in 700. We wished we had more time in that part of Denmark and would definitely go back to the Radisson Koldingfjord.
