Grand Hotel Fit For A Queen

January 27, 2006 at 9:45 AM | by | Comments (0)

Grand hotels in Europe are only different from American hotels in that they look like castles and have historic famous guests. You know like Bach, Richard Wagner, Antonin Dvorak, and Newark, N.J.'s very own Queen Latifah.

The Queen (along with Gerard Depardieu) stayed in the 300-year-old Grandhotel Pupp (pronounced "poop"... no comments necessary) just outside of Prague in the Czech Republic, last winter for the filming of Last Holiday.

The hotel is meant to look like a fairy-tale castle, and according to the director Wayne Wang, it took some Hollywood magic to create that.

It is definitely not like it is in the movie. We definitely dressed it up and did a lot of work to it.

It must have worked because despite a fluffy plotline and Queen Latifah's previous box office disappointments (Taxi, Beauty Shop, etc.), the film finished in fourth place last week.

You remeber the X-Presidents from Point Break?  Well, even though there are no reports that say the crooks who stiffed the Czech hotel were wearing musician masks, we are dubbing the criminals the X-Composers.

Thee famous Grandhotel Pupp in the Czech Republic, where Johann Sebastian Bach once stayed, was robbed by two men wearing masks sometime yesterday.

According to police, the men made off with $26,800 from the safe after tying up the receptionist. The famous five-star hotel is located 69 miles west of Prague.  Bach, as well as composers Richard Wagner and Antonin Dvorak, were frequent guests at the 18th century hotel.
