Jackson Hole Has the Best Aerial Tram of Them All

The confusingly named Rusty Parrot Lodge & Spa (Who ever heard of a lodge being named for a tropical bird? In Wyoming?) is welcoming the new Jackson Hole Mountain Resort Tram, an engineering feet years in the making:

Two years in construction, the new tram is one of the most expensive and technically challenging aerial trams in the U.S. Twice the size of the original, the new tram will carry 100 passengers and cover 4,139 vertical feet--the longest continual vertical rise for a ski lift in North America--in nine minutes to the crest of the Tetons where untracked powder awaits.

Right then. A ten-minute ride scaling a mountain so that you can plummit down it. Those of us with a fear of heights probably won't be skiing. But those of you who get excited about this sort of thing will want to hit up the Rusty Parrot because, get this, they are giving you free ski rental. FREE!

A Ritzy Hotel Experience, in a Wyoming House

Staying in a big Rocky Mountain lodge suite and having people waiting on you and arranging all your activities is great, except for those pesky other guests. And having to talk to a concierge anytime you want something. And ordering room service when you're hungry. And hailing a cab or waiting for a shuttle bus to take you anywhere.

But avoiding all that seems to be the idea behind Pure Jackson Hole, a company that sets you up with a rental home in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and then puts a gourmet chef, driver, host, guides, and occasional masseuse at your disposal.

Amangani Resort: Nirvana in the Tetons

Currently the only Aman resort in the US, Amangani at Jackson Hole feels distinctly un-American. After being picked up in the hotel's Lexus SUV's, the massive wood door is opened by a cleaned up mountain boy uniformed in black pants and a black t-shirt with Amangani spelled across in white lettering. The look is clean, sharp and seamless just like the hotel itself. Um yeah, they have their own bottled water.

The lobby is characterized by its massive picture window expanding two stories and about twenty feet across. It offers a breathtaking view of the plains below and the tetons off to the right.

The best rooms are those with the balconies looking out over the pool. They are decorated with dark redwood beams, gas fireplaces and showers with full-length views. The bathtubs are also worth noting as Amagani offers their own line of soaps, bubble bath mix and scented candles - bathing in the mountains never felt this good!
