Looks like Kimpton is wasting no time snapping up new properties now that it's got a bigger hotel company behind them.
Sources tell us the management change happened while the hotel was in escrow with new owners. Apparently, JDV Hotels was supposed to manage the property but Kimpton swayed the new owners. Right now, the hotel's JDV website is dead. But the new Kimpton website is up and running.
The property first opened in 2009, but now with a new owner and a new managing company, we wonder if a renovation will be coming soon too. Rates start at $254 a night this weekend with breakfast included. Also included is free WiFi for Kimpton Karma Rewards members and a hosted evening wine hour. Oh and a selfie stick too.

We told you yesterday about the yummy Red Velvet Cupcake cocktails at the Shorebreak Hotel. If you have one too many of them and decide to stay at the Huntington Beach hotel, we have the lowdown on the rooms.
We shelled out $219 for a room in the sleepy beach community, which is nicknamed Surf City for the many surfers who crowd the waters looking for the perfect wave. During our visit, there was even a surf competition going on. The Shorebreak takes its cues from the surfer community. Check out more about the hotel after the jump.
We hung out in the sunny patio of the Shorebreak Hotel's Zimzala Restaurant & Bar on the search for something sweet to drink. When we spotted the Red Velvet Cupcake cocktail, we knew that would sate our sweet tooth.
We expected a sugary-sweet libation with maybe some frosting on the rim of the glass. You know, like a yummy red velvet cupcake. However, we got a fruity $12 concoction that still hit the spot.
Don't be surprised to see a bunch of bitches hanging around Huntington Beach's Shorebreak Hotel next week. The cute bitches will fill the hotel courtyard for a doggie fashion show.
The September 17 event will feature the adoptable pets from the Orange County Humane Society strutting down the catwalk and modeling duds from Seattle boutique High Maintenance Bitch. The boutique carries doggie couture like brightly hued tutus, cherry-patterned raincoats, plush hoodies and novelty tees with slogans like "I heart Humping."
We’ve been telling you about Joie De Vivre’s Shorebreak Hotel in Huntington Beach for a while, but now we’ve actually had a chance to step inside one of the Waterfront King rooms (which start at $210 per night) and take you on a video walkthrough.
We’ll only give you a few spoilers right now and detail the rest for you next week but this hotel has killer views, enormous bathrooms and delicious mini-bar treats.
If only the internet were free, we could have gotten this video to you first thing this morning....
We started the day talking about lunch and now we'll wrap it up talking about dinner. Yeah, we're hungry over here!
Have a hankering for tapas in Huntington Beach? Next Thursday, September 17, Joie De Vivre’s Shorebreak Hotel is hosting a special dinner at its restaurant, the Spanish-Moroccan Zimzala. The dinner is a three-course multi-cultural nod to the cuisine of Mediterranean cookbook author and James Beard Award winner, Chef Joyce Goldstein, who consults with Zimzala’s Executive Chef, Vincent Muraco, and will feature a veritable cornucopia of Spanish and Moroccan specialties.
Though it had a “soft” (that is, an unannounced) opening on May 12, Zimzala Restaurant at the Shorebreak Hotel in Huntington Beach is now open for business...and for press.
Part of the Joie de Vivre family of hotels that we seem to be writing about more and more these days, the Shorebreak is meant to be a surfer-chic haven of beachside relaxation in one of California’s premier surf destinations. Rooms have paintings of surfers, seascapes, and, of course, killer views of the beach and pier, not to mention a few surfboards lying around.
All this week, we'll be profiling hotels for a $100 or less. Yay! Know of any other bargains? Send 'em to us.
The Shorebreak Hotel is a forthcoming property from Joie de Vivre Hotels, they of the California Passport contest. Located in Huntington Beach, the hotel will officially open on May 12 which is also when Huntington Beach will be celebrating its very own Centennial Anniversary. To celebrate both milestones, the hotel is offering rooms for $100 for its first 100 days of opening.
There are, however, some restrictions on this "Summer of the Century" deal. Only 100 rooms each week will be offered at this rate and it is valid for residents living within 100 miles of Huntington beach. A driver's license must be presented at check-in. Also, the code “SBK100” must be entered when booking online and you must book at least 30 days out from date of stay.
If you don't live within 100 miles of the hotel, the regular rates start at $199 a night. The hotel's signature restaurant, Zimzala, is also offering an opening special--the $100 dinner which comes with three courses and wine pairings for two people. We say, start looking up some "friends" within a 100 miles of Huntington beach. You won't want to miss the evening story-telling on the hotel's Deck--a private courtyard with fire pits.
We've always recommended JDV Hotels when visiting the San Francisco-area but the options in the Southland were few. However, now Chip Conley and co. are readying a property in surferdom, Huntington Beach, called Shorebreak Hotel. (Secretly, we wish this was called Point Break Hotel and it was located in Malibu.)
The hotel won't be open until sometime this spring but here's what it will include:
Opening in Spring 2009, Shorebreak Hotel in Huntington Beach, California – the original Surf City USA – is a showcase of modern hotel design at the cusp of lifestyle trends. Shorebreak Hotel draws its inspiration from Southern California’s cultivated yet laid-back surf culture, combining four-star touches with a penchant for fun.
Highlights include guestrooms with ocean views, exquisite furnishings, versatile event space, romantic fire pits and ready access to a variety of exciting recreational activities. Shorebreak’s Zimzala Restaurant and Bar will be a popular attraction for locals and visitors, offering rustic Mediterranean cuisine with an emphasis on fresh seafood, surf-inspired décor, and free-spirited good times.
We hope that Shorebreak includes a surfing concierge...named Johnny Utah. We can't find any rates just yet but JDV Hotels' rates are always rather reasonable. Keeping in mind, this will be a full-service, luxury hotel we say rooms will probably start around the $250 mark. For those of you who want a more pampered experience in the OC, don't forget JDV is coming to Laguna Beach.
When our friend told us this story, we just knew we had to share, because it's stuff like this that takes the chill out of a cold, cold day.
One night, while on business in Huntington Beach, CA, our friend* proceeded to get absolutely wasted, lose her wallet and arrive at her hotel a sobbing, disoriented mess.
It was in this state that the front desk of the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa came to her rescue, calling every bar she had been to that night in search of her wallet, even calling the airline to see how she could board the plane for her flight home sans ID. (The wallet eventually showed up, fully intact, courtesy of that night's cab driver—more warm and fuzzy feelings!)
