Park Hotel Responds to Bed Bugs Complaint
[Ed. Note: A few weeks ago we received an email from a woman complete with pictures of her alleged bed bug bites she received while staying at the Park Hotel of Hot Springs in Arkansas. Now, we have the other side of the story from the hotel management. We'll let you sort it out from here.]
We at the Park Hotel of Hot Springs, are astounded that you would just pick up this information about Bed Bugs in our Hotel without checking with us first. We are dealing with Trip Advisor at this time.
This person Ms. Castro has tried to shake us down and we have all the proof we need. Trip Advisor has finally responded after many calls (no one live ever answers) and our emails being rejected. They promise now to respond. Therefore you will know the truth shortly.
Did you know that anyone over 13 years old can write a review on Trip Advisor? This info is on their website.
Would you like to see a copy of the inspection reports taken after Ms Castro left? Would you like to see other reports? Are you aware this was the only complaint and that this Guest never said anything while at the Hotel. She neglected to tell eveyone about her long walk in Hot Springs National Park on a Hot Summer Night. But feels she could not get chigger bites there?!!!
This Guest waited a week later and made demands for money or she would put us all over the website.
Hotel guests and managment alike can always send us tips, just identify yourself as "Team Guest" or "Team Hotel".

Hot Springs Are Just Right for Bed Bugs
UPDATE: Click here for management response
![]()
A tipster lets us know that during her stay at the Park Hotel of Hot Springs in Hot Springs, Ark., during June 16 to 18, she was allegedly bitten multiple times but didn't think the bites were from bed bugs until a doctor told her so.
I left the hotel Sunday with red swollen bumps all over my legs and back. I assumed these were mosquito bites but they worsened by the end of the week. I researched pictures of bites online; mine looked to be caused by bed bugs. On Friday June 23rd, I called the hotel and was told they could be flea bites since they do allow pets.
I retrieved their e-mail address and sent photos. The manager promised to look into it and get back to me. The following Friday, June 30th, the sores had not improved, so I went to my doctor. She confirmed the bites as bed bugs and prescribed antibiotics 4x a day for 10 days. I faxed all this information to the 'JBurlon' at the front desk on July 3rd. On Friday, July 7th, I was told she would gather all info and turn it into the owner.
It is now July 13th and I was told this morning I would receive an 'extermination report' in the mail. I still have scars on my legs and it has been almost a month since my hotel stay. I have included photos.
At your own risk, there are photos after the jump.

The Homestead, If It's Your Cup of Tee

[Ed. Note: Hotel Maven People Paula continues to fill us in on her travels, this time observing preppies in their natural habitat of Virginia.]
Got a large, rich, white, Southern family and nothing to do with them? Try the Homestead!
Nestled deep in the Allegheny Mountains of Southwestern Virginia, along tortuous Sam Snead Highway, The Homestead is a centuries-old golf and tennis resort, a sort of Confederate Catskills. With a genuinely polite (if a bit over-accomodating) staff, the place can feel like more of a hassle and less of a retreat at times. And nothing could add to this feeling more than the dozens of Polo-clad children trotting down the halls of the hotel.
As for the accomodations, the rooms are somewhat small, in keeping with the age of the main building (dating back to 1892), but they are well-kept in a flowery Savannah style. One could always opt to be a member of the Owners' Club, a time share of woodsy houses - for a hefty price - but we'd recommend you check the place out before investing.
In all, the resort has a beautiful setting with fun for both children and adults...as long as those adults really like tennis and golf. So if all your shirts are stuffed and collared, the Homestead is the place for you.
