Mexico, Stripped Down

If traveling to Mexico without cellphone reception, access to an ATM, or without a desire to dance and party everynight, then Isla Holbox is for you.

100 miles north of spring breaker's fave place for debauchery, Cancun, this little island has golf cart taxis that take people around on the sandy streets instead of cars.

Basically, this place seems like where all those Corona ads are filmed.

People sleep in hammocks and drink beer mixed with lime juice and chili sauce. If you feel ambitious you can try some water sports or go fishing.

One place to stay, or maybe the only place to stay is the Xaloc Resort which has 18 "romantic" rooms, split into groups of nine around a swimming pool.

Each room is a bungalow/"palapa" that has a wooden terrace and a hammock for you to sleep. Plus the beds have big mosquito canopies.

When you get bored there, get a massage because that's really the only thing you can do. And that's a good thing.
