The zen hideaway Gaige House in Sonoma Valley, Calif. has shifted management hands again and is now a JDV Hotel. Previously Thompson Hotels ran this joint, even earning a spot on the Conde Nast Traveler "Gold List."
But now instead of Jason Pomeranc's influence, the hotel will get NorCal native Chip Conley's sensitive touch. As you recall, JDV Hotels is a California-only Collection. So far, there doesn't look like any major changes will take place in the property aside from logo-swapping. And to announce their newest hotel additon, JDV has put together (what else?) a package.
LA.com recently wrote up the winery scene in Sonoma County and guess what? This place has just as many good vineyards and restaurants as Napa Valley. And of course, once you're up there gorging and boozing you are in no condition to drive home or even be driven home. (Wine-tasting, eating and car rides don't go together at all.)
So LA.com's Eric Rosen checked out the hotel scene in Sonoma and spent a night in Gaige House, the Northern California step-child of the Thompson Hotels group. This hotel was acquired by Thompson back in late 2006 and since then it has been officially "Thompsonized." As Rosen writes:
Gaige House is hands down the hippest place to stay in Sonoma. It was built in 1900, and after a checkered career as a private home, schoolhouse and bed and breakfast, it was converted by the Thompson Group into one of its signature modern-style properties.

Since summertime, and more specifically the month of June, is the most popular time for weddings, we are kicking off our Hotel Wedding Crashers feature today. And since we ourselves have a record number of weddings to attend this summer, which all happen to be destination weddings, we thought we could get out our wedding travel frustrations in this feature.
So throughout the summer, we will be featuring all types of hotel wedding stories from packages to honeymoon suites to hotel wedding heaven and hell.
Whether you are getting married, planning your wedding, or just taking advantage of someone's open bar reception, we want to hear your hotel wedding tips/stories/frustrations.
Our second story in this series is actually our experience last weekend in Sonoma wine country in California, a very popular place for San Francisco-based couples to get married. This wedding took place in Glen Ellen which is about 10 minutes away from Sonoma proper at the Beltane Ranch. The place really doesn't do much except host weddings and people who are wine-tasting in the area since Beltane doesn't have any vineyards of its own. It does however have two horses that roam the front of the property looking extremely thirsty due to the dry and hot daytime weather.
